Solar storms or solar flare are increasingly becoming very threatening in recent months of the year 2012. Reports suggest that solar storm are heading towards earth once again and there are chances that electricity supplies in some parts of the world may be affected by it. The last time a solar storm hit the Earth, many airlines had to reschedule their flights. In several cases a few airlines even cancelled their scheduled flights.

NASA reports and pictures have showed ferocious solar storms originating from the Sun with unforeseen ferocity. But scientists have said that this time, solar flare may not prove as threatening as it proved last time. NASA scientists who have kept a close watch on the numerous flares emanating from Sun, have concluded that this time solar flare may neither affect flight schedule or affect electricity supplies in any part of the world.

Other reports appearing in science reports suggest that though intensity of storms is fluctuating, giving false predictions of the storm being over, scientists are of the opinion that other storms may be lining up in the coming, days month and year. It is predicted that in the next year the solar activity would peak, resulting in even stronger solar flares. The last storm was the strongest in several years and forecasts were done with the potential to knock electrical grids offline, mess with GPS and harm satellites. It even forced airlines to reroute a few flights. However, the storm was a threat to people, just technology.

But this year, there may be more powerful sun flares than even the last time. and according to scientists the intensity of storm may go up substantially as the Sun becomes more active. Jeffrey Hughes, director of the Center for Integrated Space Weather Modeling at Boston University says that I think we just lucked out. It just didn’t pack as strong a magnetic field as we were anticipating. but we may not be as lucky in the days to come.
