iPad mini rumors ignited by WSJ, Bloomberg: release date not clear

Apple’s iPad mini rumors have been ignited by Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. But neither its release date is clear nor specs

Pad Mini rumors have once again come out of the closet. After months of remaining dormant, the Mini iPad rumors have started doing the rounds once again. These Rumors haven’t come out from any unknown Chinese or Taiwanese tech blogs, but from leading news sources including Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal and PCMaga.

Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal have an impeccable record in predicting several future Apple products. The two also guessed even the specs and features of Apple’s future products in the past and their record gives credence to the prospects of a smaller Apple tablet in the making.

But the one thing that seems to have made people wonder is the fact that rumors about iPad mini started appearing in the media immediately after the announcement of Google Nexus 7 tablet. Search giant Google is launching its first tablet mid-July that has been manufactured by ASUS.

The rumoured iPad Mini is going to be in the same form factor as Google Nexus 7. The Bloomberg report says, iPad mini “will have a screen that’s 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally, less than the current 9.7-inch version…(iPad Mini) won’t have the high-definition screen featured on the iPad”. Some Chinese sources report that Apple has made deals with Foxconn and Pegatron to build a small version of its famous iPad tablet for late this year.

An earlier report in a leading technology blog, TechRadar said that the potential mini iPad will sport a 7.85-inch display that will feature the same screen resolution of the iPad 2 and original i.e. 1024 x 768 pixels. The third-gen iPad has a high clarity Retina Display with a whopping resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Notable advantage of the mini iPad will be that it will be smaller, thinner and lighter. Users can carry the device around in their trips easily packing it in their handbags. Most likely, the new iPad will come with the iOS 6, Apple’s next generation iOS version, which is set to come out of cover at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June this year.

Besides Google’s forthcoming Nexus 7 tablet there are numerous other competitors in the market that will not let the iPad Mini go unchallenged. In other words, Apple is eyeing to take on a set of competitors in 7 inch tablet segment. It will be a tough task for Apple to prepare its 7-inch tablet competitive to products like the Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 and 7.7 and others. It is because most of the successful 7-inch tablets are there with their low price factor.

About the prospects of a smaller iPad PCWorld has this to say, “So will Apple offer an iPad Mini later this year? It’s certain looks more likely in July than it did a few months ago.” With Google’s latest entry and other existing tablets in the market, the 7 inch tablet market seems very crowded indeed.
