It is the super match of a very entertaining tournament. a top team that played an impeccable game throughout tournament winning all its matches, was beaten by a twelfth ranked team, rather unceremoniously. Many people are still at lost to reason the poor performance of the German team. They were tipped to win the title beating Spain if Spain could qualify for the final. They said, German were assured a place in the final, while its opponents had to fight to reach there.
But opposite happened. While Spain reached the final quite easily, Germany were beaten badly by Italy. Their players squandered many chances and had to pay a very heavy price for it. They had to leave the tournament despite playing their best game throughout except in semifinals.
Italy came out with scintillating performance and beat Germany 2-1. It is altogether different matter that both the German goal came from a twenty-one year old young player Mario Balotelli. Both were great beauties and will remain etched in soccer fans’ minds.
But today Spain are going to try and stop Italy’s march. They are trying to become the first European nation to bag three consecutive major tournaments. They are already the winners of Euro Cup 2008 and the reigning champions of 2010 FIFA World Cup.
