World’s top soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo remains in focus as Spain vs Portugal Euro 2012 semi final match is set to begin. Results and Highlights to be available as the match progresses
The fight to reach the final is set to begin within an hour’s time from now. Both the teams are well prepared to give their best tonight and enter the finals that they want to win by any means. Euro 2012 is the top soccer tournament in the European Union region and every team wants to win it as badly as it wants to win the FIFA Soccer World Cup.
To be true, all the four teams that are part of the semifinals could have been playing in the semifinals of even the FIFA world cup. For, they are the best teams in the world, and merely a few other teams may claim to be as dexterous as the four who entered the semis in the Euro 2012.
Right now the Portugal soccer team seems to be a one man army completely dependent on its star player, one of the two best players in the world Cristiano Ronaldo, the Spanish team has several players who are in great form. Players like Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Pedro, Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres can change the game in their favor any time they decide to do so.
But Cristiano Ronaldo is the lone star in his team, but his star power is so great that he can easily eclipse all the top players not just in Portugal team, but in all European teams at the moment. There is just a single player, Messi who towers over him in star power and people’s affection. Notwithstanding the fact that his side had beaten Messi’s team in the last season, he was overshadowed by Messi who plays for Barcelona. But this is the time when he is the only star who is getting loin’s share when it comes to media exposure.
Not just soccer fans, but even his teammates are in awe of him. Ricardo Costa, a team member of Portugal soccer team says, “He is at the zenith of his career…He is the complete player. There’s no point looking for adjectives to define his qualities.” The 2010-2011season was particularly good for Cristiano Ronaldo as he broke several all-time records, not only in Real Madrid, but also in the Spanish League. Ronaldo scored 41 goals in La Liga, breaking the previous 38 goal record set by Hugo Sanchez and Telmo Zarra. CR7 scored a total of 54 goals and once again, won the Golden Boot award, beating Lionel Messi in the way, who finished the season with 53 goals. However, not everything was perfect, since Real Madrid only won the Copa del Rey and failed to conquer the Spanish League and the UEFA Champions League. Will he be able to take his team to the semi finals and beat Spain? People wonder as to whether this one man army will be able to defeat the great Spanish team that seems to be in their best form. We will have to wait only a few more hours to know the right answer. Till then enjoy your game.
