Manny Pacquiao focusing on Marquez, Timothy Bradley not his focus
Instead of report coming immediately in the aftermath of the Saturday’s fight, Manny Pacquiao is focusing on Marquez and not Timothy Bradley
Bob Arum seems to have given up the prospects of a Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao rematch in November. Their match on last Saturday had become a farce when judges in a split decision gave the match to Timothy Bradley who was completely beaten and was unable to stand on his feet. It was the most absurd decision when judges pronounced a boxer the winner despite the fact that he was hit more than a hundred times than the one who was pronounced loser.
From the promoter of the two boxers to all the fans in Las Vegas and elsewhere in the world, no one could believe him or her when the result was announced and Bradley was anointed as the new champion. It is to Manny’s credit that he continued to smile and even congratulated Timothy. But to do it after such a farce, you certainly need a Manny’s heart. No one else could have done that. And that is what makes him such a great fighter who is also wildly loved by millions of people across the world.
Now there are talks that instead of a rematch with Timothy Bradley, Manny may have to take on Juan Manuel Marquez in their fourth fight.
Bob Arum while clarifying on the chances of Manny taking on Marquez said, “You cannot compare this fight with Pacquiao’s fights with Marquez because they were all close. Not this one. It was clear who the winner was – except for the judges”. In their last fight Pacquiao was in defensive mood. It was clearly not his best night and he escaped with a majority decision to retain his welterweight title before an electric, sold-out crowd of 16,368 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. But the crowd, filled with Mexicans rooting for Marquez, booed the decision and threw bottles at ringside to show its outrage after an excellent fight. Right now Filipino Manny Pacquiao holds a 2-0-1 edge over Marquez, but he certainly could be 0-3. Their fourth fight may also get the same level of response from boxing fans.
Meanwhile Marquez camp too has sent positive feelers to Manny for the fourth match. “We’re going to wait to hear from Manny. He wants to fight November 10th. We’ll have conversations, but I really think the public needs to have restored confidence”, said a close confidante of Juan Manuel Marquez.
