Euro 2012 standings are becoming more clear. In an important group B match, Portugal beat Netherlands 2-1 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo who scores twice

Some months ago one of the best soccer players in the world right now Cristiano Ronaldo had said that he hasn’t reached his full potential. He was certainly being naïve when he said so. Portugal vs Netherlands match clearly showed that he is in his top form and that augurs well for his team and the world soccer.

His team scored two crucial goals against Netherlands, one of the best soccer sides in the world right now and both the goals were scored by none other than him. He also attempted to turn six more attacks into goals and failed by just a whisker.

But initially the match didn’t seem to be going in Portugal’s favor. It was always going to be a difficult match and for Netherlands to move to the next round, they were expected to win the game with at least two goal’s margin, while Portugal had to win the game by at least one goal margin to move to the next phase.

Initially the game seemed to be going for Netherlands as they made all the near perfect moves in the first round. Bert van Marwijk attack was simply mesmerizing. Rafael Van der Vaart converted an attack into goal initiated by Bert van Marwijk. Their co-ordination seemed near perfect. But though their attack was near perfect, their defense lacked the teeth necessary to ward off attack from such gifted players like Ronaldo, and that proved their undoing in the latter part of the game.

Ronaldo has made a perfect return to the form. It was expected of him. His two goals not just gave his team a win but ensured that it didn’t need any more results to enter the quarter finals. Cristiano Ronaldo recently set the record of having reached the 100 goal mark in the shortest time in Spain. He has been able to overturn Lionel Messi in this regard, but the Portuguese striker has insisted that there are still more to come from him. His last season was excellent. He has 34 goals just in the Spanish league alone, whereas he scored just 26 goals in the total of last season. It was incredible feat and now he is doing the same in UEFA Euro 2012.
