Euro 2012 scores show that Portugal vs Netherlands was dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo alone and nobody else. He gave his team 2-1 victory that ensures their place in quarter-finals

Euro 2012 is becoming very interesting. And in Group B the competition seems to be the toughest as it has some of the best teams of the tournament that don’t want to give up any match without a real fight.

Yesterday’s game between Portugal and Netherlands was a great game. It is a different thing that Portugal won it comfortably with 2-1 against a very talented side. But for the win they need to thank the man who was being attacked till the day by football fans of not just Portugal, but of other nations who said he was not playing to his potential. Now with his great show in the crucial match against Netherlands, Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to deflect his critics’ attack that hinged on one thing, “he is past his prime”.

Prior to this match, Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t come up with a good show in the previous two matches, be it against Germany or for that matter against Denmark. The team lost to Germany by one goal and won against Denmark by 3-2. In both the matches he remained luckless and his critics tore into him saying he was not working hard on field to help his team win the matches and reach the quarterfinals. But the attackers have been silenced.  After the well deserving win, he said, “Now everything is possible”.

And to be true, he is well on the mark. With the win Portugal enters quarterfinals. They had to win by at least one goal to qualify for quarter-finals and they achieved this in style. By the way, Ronaldo overshadowed all other players throughout the game with his scintillating performance. Besides the two goals that he achieved, he made several other great efforts to convert attack into goals, but Netherlands were able to ward them off. After the match even Netherlands coach showered praise on Ronaldo. “Ronaldo got so much criticism in the last game and he is back now…That is how fast things can change”, Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk said following the loss of his team.
