If you live in California or in surrounding areas you may be able to watch a rare celestial happening, a ring of fire solar eclipse, (Watch the video). Scientists say this is happening in the US after a gap of 18 years, meaning many young men and women in the country might have never seen this rare happening in their lifetime.
This is the reason many people are making detailed plans to spend the day at a place where they will be able to watch the ring of fire in its full fury. It is going to be very high on many people’s schedule on this coming Sunday.
So it is the right time – still four more days to go- when you get out your calendar and make a big exclamation point on May 20. On this day the powerful sun will get more ferocious look with a ring of fire spread around it.
We have missed many solar eclipses as the eclipses of sun that were visible in many other areas of the world were not visible in the US in the last 18 years. So give it a big hand and prepare to watch it. Solar eclipses happen when the moon passes in front of the sun, obscuring it from view.
A NASA report while talking about the forthcoming solar eclipse and the ring of fire around it says, “The “ring of fire” effect will be visible as far north as Medford, Oregon and as far south as Lubbock, Texas. Throughout the zone –called the “path of annularity” – sky watchers will see the sun transformed into a a bright doughnut-like object”.
But the whole country wouldn’t be able to witness the ring of fire around the sun. For most part of the US will experience only a partial solar eclipse, that at its highest level will cover 94 percent part of the sun. NASA report says that it wanted to remind people that this is not a total eclipse — when the moon entirely obscures the sun from view. The next total eclipse visible from the US happens in 2017. But in many parts of the world we will have a complete solar eclipse in November this year too.
