Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) Andorid 4.0 set to land. Reports suggest that firmware update reported in some European countries
Samsung’s flagship handset Galaxy Note has reportedly started to get Andorid 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update in Europe. The news was broken by The Verge, which spotted a Dutch user of the Note namely Devin Balentina tweeting a screenshot of ICS update notification he got. Well, the notification Balentina got requires him to download the 318.89MB Ice Cream Sandwich update. The firmware update will bring new S Note App’s “advanced note-taking [and] productivity tools” and will update the S Memo Widget, the notification further notes.
The Verge and other sources think that the update seems to have started hitting Galaxy Notes in the Netherlands, Germany and other European countries. Samsung has rolled out the much-coveted firmware update to the GT-N7000 international version of Note. However, the U.S. version, the SGH-i717 Note may only get it later. The Korean firm had offered to release the OTA firmware update by the end of Q1. But later it delayed the firmware update to Q2 offering new “Premium Suite” of S-Pen apps in exchange for the delay.
Premium Suite for Galaxy Note
Samsung in March announced a new Premium Suite upgrade for the Galaxy Note in Q2. The new update will contain a set of additional multimedia features including a range of new S Pen optimized apps. S Note application of the Note will help you create your own notebooks to cherish through various productivity tools and expressively create a unique story on-the-go. The feature will avail seven easy-to-use templates to express life’s every detail, says the official demo of the Premium Suite upgrade.
The new S Memo Upgrade will let Note users capture each and every idea even faster, anywhere and everywhere to share with friends and family. The new My Story self-expression tool will bring various emotions to be expressed to family and loved ones. You can also prepare letters, cards and multimedia albums to share with friends. Altogether, Andorid 4.0 ICS update will offer easy multitasking and the ability to visually manage tasks with simple swipe gestures. There will also be a facility to visualize data usage and make data consumption easier and profitable. For making video calls, the update will bring an improved Hangouts experience thanks to the large display of the Note.
“S Note also includes the innovative Shape Match and Formula Match applications that help correct and digitize geometric shapes and even solve numeric formulas hand-drawn with S Pen, increasing your on-the-go efficiency and productivity. You can draw tables and grids which are instantly digitized, saving time and effort. Moreover, by using the S Note’s integrated knowledge search engines, users can quickly search, and obtain information,” Samsung press release on Premium Suite says.
Premium Suite and ICS update
Samsung actually announced the new Premium Suite for Galaxy Note for the second quarter of the year. The company was actually expected to update the firmware of Note in Q1. But delaying the ICS update, Samsung announced the new Premium Suite with the above noted features. Unfortunately, according to The Verge, the new suite seems to have restricted the improvements to a pair of apps only; the S Note App and S Memo Widget, which are predominantly shown in the notification the Dutch user of the Note has received.
Does that mean Samsung has dropped all other improvements as some analysts noted? No way, it is too early to make such a conclusion at this point of time. It is because we are not yet sure whether the screenshot the Dutch user has shown up is authentic. We have good reason to think so because Samsung has not yet updated us that it had started to launch the ICS firmware update anywhere on the globe.
Conclusion
Galaxy Note is one of great Android handsets from Samsung. The device is known for its large 5.3-inch display other than anything else. Announced in September 2011, the Galaxy Note sports a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 800 x 1280 pixels. The handset runs on 1.4GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor with Samsung’s Exynos chipset, Mali-400MP GPU and 1GB of RAM. Currently, the device runs on Andorid 2.3 Gingerbread and it is certainly one of the prominent devices that wait for the Ice Cream Sandwich.
