Mayweather vs Cotto fight postmortem shows that Mayweather also has weak points. Here we try to know Why Mayweather is avoiding Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto fight this past Saturday was a great fight. Not many people had imagined that the fight will progress to 12 rounds and Cotto would be able to corner Mayweahter in the middle of the fight.
In the early part of the fight, it was Mayweather Jr all the way who seemed to have made Cotto sort of a punching bag. But after fifth round he started realizing his potential when he saw that some of his punches were in fact caused Mayweather to bleed. He looked as mortal as him and he started finding out more and more ways to trouble the champion boxer.
From fifth to 10th round, the match seemed to be going in favor of the southpaw, Miguel Cotto. It was now his turn to make Floyd Mayweather jr a punching bag. But in the final round, Mayweather came out strongly, beating Cotto in every aspect of the game and showing to the world that he still retained his touch in boxing that had made him an undisputed star in the boxing world.
But the fight has made him look vulnerable given the fact that Cotto was able to corner him and made him bleed. He himself called him the best and most fearsome fighter he has ever faced. Now there is another round of clamor for Mayweather and another great boxer Manny Pacquiao fight. Both have so far not faced each other despite the whole boxing world demanding them to fight each other.
Many boxing experts have said that the biggest fight of the decade (if it actually happens) is something that every boxing fan wants to see. It’s the fight everybody wants, but who knows if the planets will ever align just right and we will actually get to see it? If the main event to end all main events ever happens, who would win, Pacquiao or Mayweather?
Experts are of the view that the reason Mayweather hasn’t agreed to fight Manny is because he fears him and his boxing technique. A report says, “Mayweather knows this is the fight everyone wants. But Mayweather also knows this is the fight that could tarnish his legacy. So he demands unusual restrictions in testing, uncommon across the board in boxing, to make sure he has a built-in excuse for why the fight everybody wants won’t happen. At this stage in his career, at 36, Mayweather is more concerned with taking an undefeated record into the Boxing Hall of Fame than satisfying the desires of fans who want to see two of the best in the world step into the ring”. This fear of unexpected defeat has so far forced him not to accept the public demand for the fight.
