2012 Super Moon pictures have gone viral on internet. But so far there is no tsunami or earthquake as the predictions said

Supermoon has come and gone. But the excited viewers are still talking about the unusually big moon that it was and how fascinating it looked. For them the occasion doesn’t come very often and the sky is not always really as clear as it was this time on the occasions of super moon.

The last super moon clearly visible took place on March 11 last year. But at that time it didn’t become as big a talking point as it became this year. Earlier there was lack of awareness about the exact movement of moon too and small changes in its locations. But after NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter’s launch some three years ago, things have become very clear to astronomers too. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has been circling the moon for the last three years sending minute by minute data of its movements and other topographic map of its surface.

Whenever super moon comes, there is a surge in speculations about its possible impacts on the planet earth. There is always a scary surge in natural disasters around the globe. And to be true this was not just limited to the super moon this past week, but the same had happened last year too.

According to scientists, the moon came at the closest point with the earth on May 5, earlier this month. The occurrence termed by scientists as lunar perigee, that is called by non-scientists as a super moon, happens when a new or full moon comes 90 percent or more of its closest orbit to Earth.

But there are many people who believe that the super moon brings misfortune to the world. One such writer has this to say, “We experienced extreme weather conditions under the last Super Moons in 1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005. Hurricane Katrina is one example which happened in 2005 under a Super Moon’s influence.  The moon has such a strong gravitational pull on the earth it can control the tides and under certain conditions causes extra strong tidal patters as in the Indonesian tsunami”. But we all know that it was not true. On March 11 last year when the super moon happened, there was no incident and day before yesterday’s super moon too didn’t cause any misfortune.

So it is utterly disgusting to call it in such terms. But they are saying you are still under super moon so wait till it is actually over.
