Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto are going to fight today in what many call the biggest fight of the year. Though Miguel Cotto is not as big a name as Mayweather Jr, he is known to have beaten many big names and has wherewithal to beat anyone on his day. But many say Monday, at least, is not going to be his day as Mayweather jr is a far better boxer than him and any such question of an upset victory is just trash talking.
No one has any doubt about Miguel Cotto’s punching power. He is a big hitter and hits his opponents truly fast with his powerful punches. But people have some doubt about his quality of withstanding similarly strong punches from his opponent. And by the way Mayweather is not just a good hitter, a great planner for the fight, but can also withstand most powerful punches for considerably long time.
His distinction to withstand powerful punches is his best asset and this is the reason his side is sure of his win even before the beginning of the duel.
But if the boxing fans had their say, they would have liked to see Mayweather Jr fight against someone else, whose profile matches to a great extent to Mayweather Jr’s and who is the best pound for pound boxer right now.
To be true, a large number of both boxers’ fans were expecting to see the two great boxers to fight later today. But the fight became impossible after Mayweather showed his reluctance to the idea. A disappointed fan has this to say about Mayweather, “Mayweather has been hiding behind drug testing to avoid Paquiao. Mayweather only takes fights he knows he is going to win. He avoided Berto, Cotto, Kirkland and Margarito when they were in the same division. He had a 20 pound advantage against Marquez. He cold cocked Ortiz in one of the worst displays of sportsmanship in Championship boxing. Mayweather will avoid Paquiao as long as he has to. He will also avoid the young lions like Khan and Guerrero”. Many others too have similar view and want to see Mayweather and Pacquiao to face each other as soon as possible.
