Acer Iconia Tab A510 review: what makes it different

Acer’s MWC 2012-demoed Iconia Tab A510 has hit stores. The 10.1-inch tablet has already made a mark as one of the most comfortable tablets we have in stores. With a strong body and grip-y texture on its rear panel, the Tab A510 looks a great Android tablet. When it comes to the processing speed and firmware, the Acer tablet has several notable features. It runs on a quad core CPU and touts Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the firmware. For gaming, web surfing and movie watching and so on, the Iconia Tab A510 is a really suitable product. Here is a look into the full specs of the gadget.

Acer Iconia Tab A510 tech specs
Display screen: The Acer tablet features a 10.1-inch TFT LCD display that packs 1280 x 800 pixels at 149 ppi. The device will become one of key tablets with the large screens. The display screen of the tablet is decent; however, it falls short to the perfection of its predecessor, the A500.

Processor & RAM: As noted above, the Iconia Tab A510 runs on a quad core processor. Well, it has Nvidia’s next generation Tegra 3 quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.3GHz. Supplemented by 1GB of RAM, it looks like that the tablet will perform quite well. Anyway, its fate will be decided with a comparison with the Asus’ quad core tablet, the Transformer Prime.

Operating System: The tablet also comes with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The latest version of the Android is one of the most distinguished features with the tablet.

Storage: The Acer tablet sports 32GB internal memory plus 32GB expandable microSD slot. If you find 32GB onboard memory not enough, you can slot in memory sticks up to 32GB capability.

Camera: Acer has implemented a 5-megapixel (2592 x 1944 pixels) rear camera on its new Iconia Tab. It further features autofocus, geo-tagging and 720p video recording capability. For video chatting, the device mounts a 1-megapixel front camera.

Connectivity: The tablet has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and microUSB 2.0 as key connectivity options.

Battery: Packing a standard Li-Ion 9800mAh battery, the Iconia tablet offers 15 hours talk time.

What is great?
The new Iconia Tab is also an Olympics 2012 version tablet. Acer, a leading sponsor of the upcoming London Olympics, has engraved the five-circle logo of the sporting event along side its official logo on the rear panel of the tablet. It has long battery, Android 4.0 and Tegra 3 processor as major plus points.

“It may be the most comfortable tablet I’ve ever held, with a sturdy build and a grip-y texture on its backside. The quad-core tablet delivers fast performance in games, navigation, and Wi-Fi. The expandable storage option and Micro-HDMI are appreciated extras,” says Eric Franklin of CNet.

What is not so great?
Well, the new Acer tablet is relatively heavier and bigger. It has a highly reflective screen, which is not responsive as much as the new high-end tablets. There is no rear camera flash. It is also pricier when compared with other Android tablets of the same features.

Price and availability
Acer sells the Iconia Tab A510 for $449.99. It is now available in several markets including the U.K and the U.S.

What others say?
“Acer has succeeded in building a superb Android 4.0 tablet, and it’s one consumers with a penchant for media consumption might want to consider. Alright, so it isn’t the immaculate Tegra 3 conception Acer (or NVIDIA) might’ve wanted it to be, prone as it is to brief software fits, though we’ll confess we’ve noticed similar bumps on the similarly priced ASUS Transformer Pad TF300, as well as the dual-core Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1,” writes Joseph Volpe of Engadget.

Sum-up
The Iconia Tab A510 will be yet another member to the new quad core-based tablets. With the high end processor technology, the Tab A510 will be one of the high performing tablets out there. However, as noted by analysts, it has a comparatively higher price and is also heavier than many leading tablets of the day.
