White House Correspondents dinner 2012: Obama on Osama, Hillary & Romney

White House Correspondents dinner 2012 was a memorable night. President Obama talked about Osama bin Laden, Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney

President Obama is attracting praise and scorn for his sweeping comments about many people during the White House Correspondents Dinner 2012 last night. President Obama was at his mischievous best as he took a dig at not just his main rival in the Presidential elections later this year Mitt Romney, but also at Hillary Clinton besides many others.

Republicans are angry at him for his attack against their Presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney. They were even more angry the way he spoke during the skit this past week during a show at North Carolina University. They say President is destroying the dignity of his office by such ‘cheap’ gimmicks. But on the other hand President is being called cool by his fans and Democrat supporters who say that he has proved that despite being a great President he has no airs about him.

President Obama began his speech on a somber note recalling the last year’s White House Correspondents Dinner that took place very close to the killing of Obama bin Laden in Pakistani garrison city of Abbotabad last year. After a few days the US would be celebrating the first anniversary of killing of their most hated figure of US, Osama bin Laden by SEAL members. President while recalling the killing said, “Last year at this time, this very weekend, we finally delivered justice to one of the world’s most notorious individuals”.

Meanwhile there are accusations that President is seeking political mileage by repeatedly speaking about the killing of Osama bin Lade. But White House has denied this accusation. But a senior White House official John Brennan denied the accusation and says, “All that I know is that the president made the decision when he was given the opportunity to take a gutsy decision, to carry out that raid with our special forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan…The president made that decision. I think the American people are, you know, clearly very appreciative and supportive of that decision. We’re safer today as a result”.

But Obama didn’t really talk only about Osama Bin Laden, he also took a dig at his own secretary of state Hillary Clinton. While talking about Ms Clinton he said, “Four years ago, I was locked in a brutal primary battle with Hillary Clinton. Four years later, she won’t stop drunk texting me from Cartagena”.
