George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, John Legend are expected to be there at White House Correspondents Dinner 2012
A large number of celebrities are set to be part of White House Correspondents’ dinner tonight. To be true names from media circles are not making as much noises as the Hollywood A listers who will be there in full force.
The White House Correspondents’ dinner attracts great names from Hollywood and the media industry as everyone wants to be part of this great and select group of media persons from around the country. For many of Hollywood biggies it is the best time to interact with mediapersons and showcase them their forthcoming films or documentaries.
There were all the big names last year and the same is going to be the case this year too. If you talk about the youth icons, they were there in large numbers last year and included sensations like Justin Bieber, Jessica Simpson, Chelsea Handler, Betty White, Lindsey Vonn, Spike Lee, Mariska Hargitay, John Mellencamp and Judd Apatow besides many others.
This year almost all the big names in Hollywood are expected to be the part of the gala in White House. Martha Stewart should be there, so should be Diane Keaton and Rashida Jones. The top names in Hollywood including George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, John Legend, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks are all expected to make an appearance there. Other big names who are also expected to participate in the once in a year dinner include Reese Witherspoon, Daniel Day-Lewis and many others.
White House Correspondents dinner has long been dubbed the Nerd Prom by snarks and Washington’s Oscars by dreamers. A report while detailing the genesis of this dinner says, “…what began in 1920 as a clubby banquet for the gents who covered the White House (this was waaay before Helen Thomas) has mushroomed to include a spiraling number of ever more extravagant, ever more exclusive parties that wrap around the dinner like a bustier on a buxom starlet”.
