B, I did not say I won’t buy – I said I won’t buy Apple until I’m satisfied that I’m not contributing to something terrible. You are now subjecting me to a trial of what I own – I can tell you that I am not a disposable product buyer/consumer – my phone is old, my TV is still analogue and I don’t really watch TV. I do have a DVD player and B, you are right and that is the only thing I have that could cause me to worry as I like retro, I will look into the making of that machine and I should have thought of that…
My Apple computers were made in the US and made even more amazing by geeks – the kind of people that made Apple special, real people and they use to work really well but I do have to replace my ibook made in 2002. I just want to make it the right decision for me now I’m thinking of getting a macbook – this does not mean my decisions apply to you all but conversely neither does your way of thinking be applied to me by you (I think they call that indoctrination and tyranny if that were the case) – this decision is for me and I would like to leave it at that. Thank you all for your thoughts but I think I won’t be posting anymore and yes thanks for the updates Joe.

Finally! I’ve been waiting forever for the new Macbook Pro to come out! Hopefully the 17inch model will come out at the same time as the 15 inch, but according to history it looks like my wait is going to be longer. Does anyone know if the 17inch model is going to come out at the same time?

Val, keep in mind that per capita suicide rate in Foxconn was lower than in some states in the U.S… Keep in mind that many of the workers there come from rural areas and are bound to suffer from depression.

So basically you’re saying that you don’t own any sort of electronics at all? Because your TV, Bluray player, game console, alarm clock, coffee maker and many other things are manufactured in China or Taiwan or some other country overseas where the workers are mistreated just as badly, or worse. There is nothing wrong with wanting people to be treated right, but you would boycott just about every manufacturer, who all claim to be ‘ethical’. The only reason people are giving you crap is because you said you won’t buy an Apple product because of the treatment of the factory workers producing the product. Using that logic means you shouldn’t buy anything, or at least the majority of anything…

Thanks Reality but I am not discriminatory – I do not want anyone person suffering needlessly when making stuff for me anywhere be it China, the US, etc (I want that kind of world to become a distant memory)
I hope and am sure that Apple are changing that kind of culture (because they say they are and are giving updates so people can find out how and giving the timelines for those changes).
I am really sad I brought this up as I feel I’m being bullied on this issue all because I hold a view based on terrible scenarios and I empathised as a fellow human being. Read what workers have been subject to and then perhaps you may understand my view. I just want respect for workers to be a cultural transference across every country so technological evolution is really as advanced as our attitude towards the people who make it happen for us. What is actually wrong with wanting good changes to happen?

Val- Take a second and remember that people suffer in every career path/ job. Its just what you are hearing about thanks to the media and Apple’s success. Look at any other factory and you’ll find suffering both in the US and in China and everywhere else.

I returned from China. I’m exchange student. Foxconn job very desirable. My sister have job there after trying many months. My country have little social services like United States. You work to support family so family can live. Foxconn job is very good job to have. Other jobs not as good.

I have never bought a computer from the brands you mention so I don’t care much for what they do or don’t do. I bought into Apple years ago because they said they were ethical – I expect ethics to continue not stop after you’ve got a bit of success or major success. I want to buy from Apple – I like them but I don’t like people to be treated badly for a product that is in my house. It’s really that simple for me, you stop being ethical, I stop buying, if you and other Apple people don’t want to buy products that are ethical – that is up to you! but please have the decency to let other people who may not feel like you have a choice – it’s called freedom.
PS I am really pleased Apple are doing something about what is going on in China – maybe it will have an impact on other people’s brand purchases but this change did not come from the attitude that you buy no matter what – it comes from a request for Apple to change that culture.

Its about time that apple came out with a new macbook laptop cause i really dont like the ones in the market right now, hopefully it will be soon enough so that i can have the 2012 version.. maybe its going to be something similar with just a few upgrades.. but youll never know what to expect from apple…

Val Keller – Then I assume you won’t be buying a laptop from anyone since most of the major laptop manufacturer’s (Dell, HP, Asus, etc.) use Foxconn, and those that don’t use other Chinese companies with similar practices. Apple is the only one to publicly come forward and recognize the issues. And they are the only one being called out, because they are the most successful.

I will probably buy the 2011 version because it’s takes awhile for any product to mature. Considering all the new features of the upcoming macbook pro, it could potentially have alot of problems that need to be fixed.

I’m just getting tired of waiting for the new 15″ MacBook Pro to come out. I’ve been waiting far too long for it… Was going to buy the current version. But I hear the new one may look different. So I’d much rather have one that looks a recent, than what will become the “old” line of silver ones. Knowing that if they change the external design it’ll be like that for some years to come. So I continue to wait impatiently.:: APPLE RELEASE IT ALREADY!!!

I just hope this model is better than the previous 15 inch which cost quite a bit to get a decent screen and memory. I won’t buy until I am sure Apple will give the Chinese workforce better pay and take some responsibility for suppliers like FoxConn
