Louisiana primary results are out and Rick Santorum has beaten beats Mitt Romney rather easily. He has also got 9 delegates from the state

Rick Santorum has soured the last few successes of his Republican frontrunner foe Mitt Romney. His convincing win in Louisiana primary shows that the route to nomination for the so called frontrunner Romney is still very difficult. He has to go a long way even now and much will depend on how Rick Santorum actually conducts himself in the days ahead.

Santorum has won the trust of Southerners by siding clearly with religious conservative elements. A few more wins in South and the Romney advantage will be gone. Romney has already failed to solidify his position among Republicans and many are still skeptical if he is capable of winning the Presidential race if he is pitted against the incumbent President Barack Obama.

Meanwhile the latest win in Louisiana came despite the gaffe that Rick Santorum made while attacking his opponent Mitt Romney a few days ago. While speaking in Texas on 23rd March Santorum said that he and his supporters will note vote in favor of Mitt Romney if he wins the nomination. He told a cheering crowd, “We may as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk”. While talking to media he said, “you guys should do some reporting instead of just reporting what Governor Romney feeds you…Do your job. Go and look at the facts and what these states are actually doing instead of buying the Romney spin machine to convince voters to vote for him because of a phony math problem.”

The statement from Santorum has drawn condemnation from Mitt Romney and his well oiled poll machinery. But Santorum said that the media too easily accepted the interpretation of his statement by Romney camp without thinking sincerely about it.

Meanwhile many Romney supporters have said that winning in South may be a lot difficult for Romney. A reader says, “Coming from Louisiana I can say for certain he won the primary for the following reasons: Religious zealotry among many of the people down here, no gun control background (unlike Romney), and because of the fact many Democrats and Independents switched parties in order to vote for Santorum. The guy has an IQ of maybe 10, and that’s being generous. Obama will humiliate this man at the polls. That being said, he is still trailing Romney and it will remain that way. The GOP nomination is going to come down to a brokered convention and we’ll see who has the most friends after that decision is made”.

In the meantime many an election pundits are amazed over the margin of the victory for Rick Santorum. Santorum won around 47 percent votes while Mitt Romney won just about 26 percent of votes. The left of the votes went to Gingrich and Ron Paul.
