Where’s my refund tool finally gets the IRS fix

Finally the IRS has been able to fix the glitch in Where’s my refund tool. For weeks the tool was not working and people were unable to know as to when they would be able to get the return. For many people this was very disturbing issue and they were complaining to the IRS about the dysfunctional tool.

But thankfully now the issue seems to have been sorted out as IRS has said that the tool is functioning properly. “If a taxpayer received an acknowledgment message that their e-filed tax return has been received, they can be assured that the IRS has the tax return even though “Where’s My Refund” does not reflect that. Taxpayers should not call the IRS unless specifically directed by “Where’s My Refund,” as there is no new information to give them”, says an IRS press release.

Meanwhile many people complained about the mental stress they felt due to the fact that the tool was not giving them right information

A reader says, “After waiting almost 3 weeks to see even as much as an estimated date as to when I might see my refund, I finally got a date a few mins ago for March 6th. That’ll put it at a month and 3 days after taxact said the IRS accepted my return. So year round the rich get richer off our taxes, and the middle class struggles to stay out of the lower class, and the lower class gets government funding and food stamps, and those that actually want to try to get somewhere in life have to struggle their whole lives. My return was supposed to be $969 in federal, and they’re just sitting on it, because of a “computer glitch” how in the world do they not prepare for these things, they have almost what 8 months each year to prepare for this rushed tax season, and they screw us every year! It’s the ones that legally pay their taxes and try that get screwed, those that don’t really rely on that money don’t have to worry”.

Another reader says, “Same here, I filed on 2/5 and i checked the site today and it gave me a date of March 5th. And that is not good either because there are bills to pay and now I will have late fees. I will never depend on the irs refund tool again cause you never know they might decide to just keep your money”.

“Like many, I filed in the first week of Feb (2/3/12) through TurboTax. For days, WMR reported it had no information. Then, around Feb 15 it reported a date of March 6. On Sat. 2/18 it then changed that date to 2/21. Short lived optimism as that day has come and gone. Still nothing in the bank as of the today (2/22). I think the dates are a joke and have no real value” says Chris F.

Another reader has this to say, “21 days now n still nothing. I could understand if there is a delay or whatever but the thing that really pisses me off is I know 5 people that filed over a week after I did and they got their refunds over a week ago!? Even though we all filed with turbo tax with direct deposit. Wtf is that it should be first to file first to get ur refund right!? Ahhhh soo frustrated!! And of course i cant get any answers from irs or website, im starting to worry my refund got stolen or something:( .. why do they say call if u dont get in 10-21 days if they wont do or tell u anything??? N why would they take care of people that filed later first… NOt FAIR!!!”

Meanwhile while clarifying the procedure of IRS, a press release has this to say, “The IRS reminds taxpayers that refund time frames provided by “Where’s My Refund” and tax providers are projected time frames and are subject to revision. Many different factors can affect the timing of the refund after the IRS receives the return for processing. The IRS is providing additional screening for fraud this year before issuing refunds, but the vast majority of taxpayers can still continue to expect to receive their refunds in a timely fashion.” But probably this wouldn’t satisfy those people who suffered from a malfunctioning tool of the IRS.

  • john

    bull shit

  • Kristina

Still tells me the same thing since feb 6th! It is not fixed!

  • Bill

It really is a load of b.s. If you owe irs you better pay on time or you get fined, a high intrest fee to pay on top of that. I think they should go into unclaimed refunds from years prior and pay fines and intrest fees to those that were promised their refund 7-10 days. We pay their salaries!!! WTF!!!

I Have the same problem it was filed Jan 8th and accepted on the 17th it gave me a date for a while now it just says it was recieved and processing wtf i checked again today and still says the same thing

  • Alison

Its still not working for me either. I filed 2/2 and am waiting on over $5,000 and the website still says “We cannot provide you with you information on your return”. Ridiculous.

My husband and I filed jointly, and if I type in his SS# it says Feb 21st (we di not get the refund then, btw) and if I type in my SS# it says March 27th. LOL! The IRS is a joke, me thinks. We filed on 2/11, and were told it would get to us in about 8 days. That’s pretty funny. Glad I’m not depending on that money for food, etc. It still sucks, though.

That stupid where’s my refund tool doesn’t work! First it said February 28th and then it said February 21st! Now here it is the 24th and still nothing. We’ve been waiting and waiting. We really need this money with our bills stacked up sky high!

  • Phil

Still not working for me. So yeah I would be surprised if its accurate. My return was accepted on 2/9 and I not only electronically filed but requested for a direct deposit.. I dont understand how it can take so long to just send my return to a major bank.. Bet the upper class got theirs 24 hours after they filed.. It’s BS. Now im behind on bills, was counting on fixing my car and now it doesnt run at all, my son needs to go to the dentist and my wife has surgery the first week of March.. IRS doesnt care they still have my money.

It said Feb 15th then March 6 now it says if u filed complete and acurate return it’ll b sent within 6 weeks….I filed and accepted Feb 2. Ne one else have this happen or have this status?

  • Anthony

I efile on January 17 was accepted on January 19. Called IRS and they want me to send papers to amtap. The where is my refund said to wait 6 weeks but the rep. from IRS said it will take 8 more weeks after they receive my original filing papers. My refund is expected to come sometime at the end of April Or beginning of May. 1st time in 15 years doing my taxes that is taking that long to receive my refund. If we fail paying them on time we get fine and even jail. They don’t send my refund on time and I cannot get at least a penny for having my money extra time in their banks gaining interest.

  • Everett

@mbend………I had the same exact updates. Filed Feb5 accepted Feb 6 …when site was fixed said March 6 and now today says within 6weeks of acceptance date.No idea what is going on….UNREAL…and im sure they will still deduct the 61 dollars for rapid file.

  • john

It is still not fixed!! filed and accepted on Feb. 2nd!
“where’s my refund” page shows it has no information on my return still today!! ARRRGGGGG!!!!!!

Mbend – same for me…went from 2/28 to 2/21 to no date up to 6 Weeks.. Filed 2/6 accepted 2/9 (according to the IRS, according to tt it was accepted 2/6…) What a joke.

I’m getting worried again. Filed 2/5, accepted same day. Nothing on Wmr for almost 3 full weeks. Then Thursday it said Mar 6. Then Friday it said 2/29 it should be dd. but I haven’t read of one person who filed when I did who has actually recieved a return. I filed using Turbo Tax and had a pretty simple standard return. I claimed our 6 yr old son but otherwise nothing that would put out a red flag. Same info as every year, expecting 2700 back which compared to a lot of people isn’t much. I hear people getting 5-6,000 back. I thi k they don’t have the money.

  • Mikki

Ok, I my return was accepted 1/22/2012. I originally recieved the message stating it would be deposited 2/9/2012. Then I recieved the message stating it was mailed on 2/10/2012. As of today 2/28/2012 when I go to WMR it is telling me the system has no information. At this point all I can do is laugh. I have pretty much made it up in my mind that I am not going to get anything. I think I have been strong armed by the IRS LOL.

  • Ivette Lopez

I e-filed with Turbo tax on 1/30/12. My return was accepted on 2/2/12. I was told by the “Where’s my refund” website it would be direct deposited on 2/14/12. On 2/7/12 the status changed to “If you filed an accurate return you should receive your refund within 6 weeks” finally got tired of waiting…spoke to IRS on 2/27/12 they informed me there was something wrong with my return and that I needed to send a hard copy of my taxes to AMTAP in Fresno, CA and that it will take an addition 6-8 weeks to process. This is some BS! I am a working mother with 3 children who needs her money to pay bills, etc. IRS is a load of crap! I bet if I owed them money they would have been banging on my door from day one!

  • katei

hmm. I too filed electronically 2/4/12, efile accepted 2/5/12 and the WMR tool did not have any information on my refund until last week where i received a date of March 6(starting to think this is a generic date to appease people). After reading these posts I checked again and it states “Your tax refund is scheduled to be direct deposited on February 29, 2012. If your refund is not credited to your account by March 5, 2012, check with your bank to find out if it has been received. Please wait until March 5, 2012 before you contact us again because we are unable to take any action until then.” I will keep my fingers crossed that I will receive my refund tomorrow 2/29. Wish they would pay interests on this fiat money as I have to pay when I owe. Think they could afford to contract better testers and dev teams. I pray that everyone get their deserved money in time. I understand, this economy is rough, not like we pay taxes. They take them to begin with :(

I e-filled my taxes with H&R Block on 1/28/12. Seven weeks, I called the IRS and they told me that I have to wait 6 more weeks. Tired of waiting, I called them again and the want me to send papers to amtap. But at the top of that the IRS told that I have to wait 6-8 more after submitting the papers to amtap.

  • Millie

I encorage all the people to call the IRS at 18008291040. Listen all the options from the automate system and press 99. That way it will send you to speak with a representative. Otherwise, it will take you to the automate system.

  • ft

I am still waiting for my refund and waiting for AMTAP. What’s going on???? I filed in February.
