People were wondering as to when is Ash Wednesday 2012? It is finally here and has announced the beginning of Lent season
Ash Wednesday 2012 is finally here. There is great enthusiasm in the air about the day as it is counted as among the best days of the year. It also marks the arrival of Lent season, that holds great importance for Catholic Christians. The dates for Ash Wednesday differ every year. If it fell on March 9 last year, this year it is falling on February 22.
Catholic Christians say Ash Wednesday that announces the arrival of the holy season of Lent is very special occasion for Christianity as a whole as it gives opportunity to the followers of the religion to repent, prayer and fasting. These are besides other important rituals that are also undertaken by Christians across the world.
A report while detailing about the importance of the Lent season says, “Ash Wednesday [is] the beginning of Lent. And the church does a strange thing on this day. For those who desire it, we place ashes on their foreheads as we say, “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.” Sounds like the ultimate reductionist view: Humanity is nothing but dust. So what is the insight here, and what more is there to say? There is nothing pretty about dust..To call someone dust in any other context would be fightin’ words. Don’t call me dirt. So why do we do this strange thing on this day. Remember, you are nothing but dust.”
The season of Lent starts exactly 46 days before Easter Sunday. It is the time of the year when faithful across the world celebrate the resurrection from death of Jesus Christ. Easter’s arrival is decided by the appearance of the “paschal” full moon, which is the first full moon that rises on or after the Vernal, or Spring, Equinox.
