Samsung has announced two midrange Android smartphones; the Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Mini 2. The announcement comes just ahead of the World Mobile Congress 2012. Of course, the Ace 2 and Mini 2 will be there on display at the company’s booth in Barcelona next week. As anyone may guess, the Ace 2 and Mini 2 respectively succeed to the company’s Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Mini. Both devices run Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the former having dual core and latter having single core processors. The Korean tech manufacturer will make the devices available in global markets in a couple of months. Here is a look into the specs and features of the new handsets from Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 2
Simply, it is an upgrade to the successful Galaxy Ace original. Samsung initially launched Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with a single core 800MHz mobile CPU and 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen. The device features only 278MB and 1350 mAh battery. Later, the company brought out Galaxy Ace Plus with 3.65-inch display, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 3GB internal storage. It has now launched the Galaxy Ace 2 with far better specs and features.
The Galaxy Ace 2 comes with a dual core processor. This is what the major modification Samsung has introduced. With a dual core 800MHz mobile processor, the Ace 2 will be one of the best affordable dual core handsets in stores. The device will sport a 3.8-inch PLS TFT touchscreen display with WVGA (480×800) resolution. There will be a beefed-up 768MB of RAM and many other features.
Modern day features like Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, microSD, microSDHC and 5-megapixel 720p HD video camera will rest on Galaxy Ace 2. Along with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Samsung will offer the new version of TouchWiz UI with Live Panels UX. There is an enhanced 1500 mAh battery to ensure long battery life. The device mounts a VGA secondary camera for video chatting. Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and others will make Ace 2 richer and a respected phone.
Being a major weakness of the upcoming Ace 2, PhoneArena finds the lack of an ambient light sensor for automatic screen brightness adjustment. Anyway, it will be a small and lightweight phone with the dimensions of 4.66 x 2.45 x 0.41 (118.3 x 62.2 x 10.5 mm). According to TechRadar’s Gareth Beavis, O2, Orange and T-Mobile will sell the Ace 2 when it is up. “After the success of the original Samsung Galaxy Ace, it makes sense that the Ace 2 will have a similar level of fervor behind it,” Beavis adds.
Galaxy Mini 2
Galaxy Mini 2 is the minor of the two new Samsung phones. The Mini 2 comes with a slightly smaller 3.2-inch HVGA (320×480) touchscreen display. It will also tout TouchWiz UI and Live Panel UX. The device will run on an 800MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of built-in memory. It will sport a 3-megapixel rear camera and will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microSD slot will make the device a great average handset out in stores. The device will come with a set of impressive body colors and a solid body.
CNet counts features like increased screen resolution, compact and colorful body as the major plus points of Galaxy Mini 2. Meanwhile, a processor with less power and limited camera sensor are the major shortcomings. The Mini 2 measures in at 109x59x11.9mm and weighs at 106.8 grams. Of course, the Mini 2 will be priced quite lower than the Galaxy Ace 2.
What others say?
Let us listen to what Simon Stanford, U.K managing director of telecommunications and networks at Samsung says of the new duo of phones,
“The Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Mini have both been hugely successful handsets for us since they launched last year so we’re excited to be bringing our customers refreshed versions of both devices.”
Sum-up
What is best with the Galaxy Ace 2 and Mini 2 is that both devices come with better multimedia features. Well, the devices support lossless audio file format and many others including Samsung’s new SoundAlive streaming service. The handsets will highlight Samsung Apps Store, Kies Air, Social Hub and a number of proprietary and other instant messaging features.
