The mother of the critically ill baby Falak who was brought to AIIMS in a severely battered condition by a 14 year old, has been traced, the Delhi Police has claimed.
The 22 year old woman who was brought back from Rajasthan has claimed that she is the biological mother of the baby and that she was forced to run away from Rajasthan as her husband was forcing her into prostitution.
The woman who is being identified only as ‘Munni’ apparently left the baby with a woman named Laxmi, from whom the suspect Rajkumar took the baby. Rajkumar, who is still at large, was the lover of the 14 year old who brought the baby to AIIMS.
The story goes something like this: A woman named Munni flees Rajasthan with her baby and comes to Delhi. She abandons the baby with a woman laxmi. A man Rajkumar who has left his wife in Mumbai and has eloped with a 14 year old, takes the baby from Laxmi for reasons of his own and gives her to the teenager. The teenager brings the badly bruised baby to AIIMS. the news of the baby’s horrifying injuries go out to the media. The nation erupts in rage.
With the arrest of the mother the case has become a little clearer, and the police are saying that it relates to prostitution. The police so far do not no clearly as to the person who had battered the baby.
Falak meanwhile continues to be critical, even though she has been taken off the ventilator. ”Falak is still critical, there has been no major decline or significant improvement in her condition,” M.C. Misra, chief of the AIIMS Trauma Centre told reporters here.
The doctors treating Falak said that the brain infection was a cause of concern. “There is infection in brain fluid as per cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) report which is a cause of concern, but it is not traced in the blood which is a good sign. Lungs too are in a better condition,” Misra said.
The doctors informed that they have put Falak on ventilator support intermittently.
“We are not keeping her continuously on ventilator support. If a patient is on ventilator for a long period, the chances of getting respiratory-associated pneumonia increases. It becomes difficult to control the infection which cause pneumonia because the bacteria involved become resistant. Therefore, we try to remove her from ventilator for a few hours,” Misra said.
The doctor also informed that a new antibiotic will be added to clear the infection identified in her brain fluid. “For the past one week we are administering strong antibiotics. We are adding another new antibiotic to handle the infection in the brain fluid,” doctor said.
The doctor also added that the next few days are going to be challenging to save the baby as she has multiple infection. “The next few days, will be challenging as we have to tackle the brain fluid infection cautiously,” Misra added.
