Most of the Bihar Ministers seem to be quite smart investors as in pursuance of the wealth disclosure policy; they have made their details of wealth public. It can be easily accessed at Bihar government website and the progress could also be known as their wealth in 2010 is also available at the site. Though it is expected that Members of Legislative Assembly and Council also made their wealth public, the compliance rate is very low.
The details of twenty nine ministers show that they have increased their bank savings, number of and shares and also added land acquisition. Most of them have become richer because the cost of their land have gone up. Around half of the ministers own some or other kind of fire arms like double barrel gun, revolver or pistol.
Out of 243 MLAs only ninety have made their assets public. In case of MLCs only two are still to make their assets public. The list of the ministers’ assets is clear indicator how rich they are. While some of them are crorepatis, others are quite near to that. Still, independent observers feel that the disclosure is still not real. They are also critical that the source of income is not disclosed so, it is really a futile exercise. But many relish to read about the wealth of public representative of a poor state.
