Samsung Galaxy Nexus vs Apple iPhone 4S: specs by specs comparison

Samsung Galaxy Nexus is finally available in US market. Many people are comparing it with Apple iPhone 4S. Here is a short specs by specs comparison of the two smart phones

Samsung Galaxy Nexus has finally been released in the US market. It was a rather long wait and people are falling for this smart phone that is being labeled as the best Android Phone till date. Ice Cream Sandwich has made it among the best of all and big demand following its US launch by Verizon a few days ago.

In other parts of the world it has already made its mark through impeccable design, great specs and best of all a much more improved Android software that has taken the smart phone operating system fight to the next level.

Now many people are comparing the Galaxy Nexus with another great smart phone Apple’s iPhone 4S, that is the highest selling smart phone in the market.

Experts have said that Galaxy Nexus is actually an important sign of Google vs Apple fight intensifying in the coming few months. Galaxy nexus is the phone that has all the mark of Google. On the other hand iPhone 4S is the best smart phone till now from Apple. Cupertino based Apple iPhone 4S comes with the customary 3.5-inch widescreen multitouch Retina Display. Apple has not brought any modifications on the screen of iPhone 4. The same screen size and 960 x 640 pixel resolution at 326 ppi are kept up on iPhone 4S also. There have been large rumors for sometime around that the 2011 iPhone upgrade will have a 4 plus inch edge-to-edge screen. It seems Apple might be introducing a large display only on its 2012 iPhone 5 upgrade now.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the other hand comes with a fascinating 4.65-inch multitouch display. Samsung’s Super AMOLED HD display with a high resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels is indeed capable to put a hem on iPhone 5’s celebrated Retina Display. In fact, Samsung is a peerless leader in display technology.

While talking of software, Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes with the best Android OS launched by Google and it has improved the appeal of Nexus to all new level. Apple iPhone 4S, on the other hand has a great OS in iOS 5. Ice Cream Sandwich is Android’s major upgrade ever. The Android OS for a smartphone has got a key update after 18 long months after Android 2.1 Éclair. The new Android OS is to bring some innovative features like voice commands, facial recognition, and numerous others.

The biggest technology company Apple’s latest iOS 5 seems to be the most advanced one from it. Apple iOS 5 has a few incredible features including iCloud and Siri voice recognition app. Many other groundbreaking features like iMessage, Newsstand, Notification Center and new Safari browser make iOS 5 a real champion.

While talking of camera, Apple’s latest baby has clear advantage over Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Many experts have inferred that iPhone 4S is almost as good as a professional camera and within a very short period of time it has become the highest used camera for people who use it for taking pictures and putting them on Flicker.Com. Galaxy Nexus comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front camera for video chatting. Apple iPhone 4S comes with an impeccable 8-megapixel camera and 1080p video playback.

It is certainly a tricky job to spot a winner from Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4S. Preference of a customer between the devices often depends on the software they like to have. There are customers, who love iOS and many others who love Android. Android fans will doubtlessly go for Galaxy Nexus, the first phone on the much-craved Ice Cram Sandwich update. But, those, who admire Apple and iOS, will not hesitate for a moment to grab iPhone 4S that runs on the most hyped-up iOS update ever.

Ginny Mies while writing in PC world concludes aptly while writing about Galaxy Nexus, “The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a superb phone, and a great vehicle for introducing Android Ice Cream Sandwich to the world. Android has clearly come a long way, and the tweaks and updates Google has implemented throughout the operating system make a huge difference in efficiency and ease of use. Right now, the Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone you can buy”.

  1. Simple, Apple has a complete s/w & h/w seamless integration team under one roof, it also has an entire ecosystem with tons of apps. It is a clear leader on smartphone and goodwill. How do you feel if someone look at your phone and think you like copy-cat products? Doesn’t that affect your integrity too?

  2. Well the nexus also has more RAM and has an NFC chip and a better front facing camera and no buttons on the front and its 4g. And the nexus has a MUCH faster processor. Iphone doesnt have any of those features. That kinda sucks for people with iphone haha. I am typing this from my galaxy nexus. And im enjoying tons of features that iphone doesnt have haha.

  3. better front facing camera? what about the camera that people actually care about.. the rear one? the 4s kills the galaxy nexus there. and ios5 is just a much smoother experience than ics.

  5. Brandon you are such a tool. If the iPhone never came out you would never have your galaxy nexus POS. sorry but every other smart phone has to compare to apple because apple makes the superior product. Your phone is just a blatant copy of apple. One other thing, how widespread is that 4g service and how fast does your battery go down? I love every time you android fanbois bring up 4 g because it makes me laugh.

  9. I can browse the web faster than on the iphone. Especislly when connected to 4g. My camera takes.pictures faster. The iphone camera is a lil better because its 8mp but the galaxy nexus still takes Great pictures. If i wanted a better camera than the iphone then i would have gotten the galaxy s II. I can request webpages offline. I have a facial unlock feature which works 90% of the time. Im running 4.0.2 and it gives me the option to take a picture of myself in.low light and with bright light which means it will recognize me no mstter what. Unless.its REALLY dark. I have a bigger screen to enjoy all of my apps:) when im playing a game that requires to thumbs on the screen, i can actually see my character. My thumbs take up half the screen on an iphone. I can download almost every app on android market without jailbreaking. I have a barometer in my phone! Soumds rediculous but it help with gps. Haha. I have a removable battery and a data manager and a battery manager with a graph. My settings menu is easier to navigate. My phone looks.cooler. the gsm version of my phone is thinner than the iphone. Do u want me to go on? Android just has more features and more customization and its faster.amd.cooler. that is why i pick android.

  10. “I have a facial unlock feature which works 90% of the time.”

Do you realize that the facial unlock feature can be beat by holding up a picture in front of it? It’s been proven by one of the tech-analyst.

“My phone looks.cooler. the gsm version of my phone is thinner than the iphone.”

A phone looking cool is highly subjective. Tell that to the people being held up out there and being asked to turn over their iPhones. The victims offer their Android or Blackberry and the theif instead asks for money when they find out the victim doesn’t have an iPhone.

“I can download almost every app on android market without jailbreaking.”

Google just deleted thousands of apps from Android Market because of malware. Sure, feel free to download questionable apps, but don’t blame us if your privacy is compromised.

  13. When the first smart phone came out it was an apple when I first saw the 3G they did not have a camera when the 3GS came out it had a camera and I finally bought my first smart phone which was made by Apple. Five years later after Google had a fall out with Steve Jobs it was amazing that Google started to make their own smart phone that happened to look just like the iPhone. Everybody started copying the iPhone Google, Samsung, Motorola ect… Right after the fall out with Steve Jobs. Don’t get me wrong I think that’s a good thing that there’s other companies that want to make the best smart phone. Competition is good for the consumer, cause you get a variety selection of smart phones to chose from and it will keep the price down, but it won’t be like the frist of its kind, because there was only one Steve Jobs.

  14. The Iphone was not the first smart phone.
Yeah it was the first that was dumb enough for the common idiot to run but I’m not and idiot so i do not care.
How hard is it to keep a 4×5 grid of icons “seemless and integrated”..??
    seriously..
Widgets will be in the next IOS release MARK MY WORDS!!!
THE OLD LEADER IS GETTING KILLED.
    The Iphone is crap.

  16. Comparing the iPhone to the Nexus is like comparing the Nexus to a Motorola StarTac. You cant even Multi-task on a iPhone. There are so many more features on an Android based phone than Apple could ever imagine. Siri who give’s a rats A$$ about that. Keeping drinking the Kool-Aid people

  17. Android lovers enjoy it while you can because it is approaching its prime. Android IS limited and at the moment it is arguably as advance as it is going to get, not to mention the big risk android faces every day for malware. The android OS is a ticking time bomb and just the uncertainty of the products “future” and security is what every one should keep in the back of their mind, no doubt that it is a fantastic product though for the moment!!!!. Apple on the other hand (especially with the launch of the iPhone 4S, well… with ALL their products) offers an ACTUAL quality products with OS’s that IS simply years ahead of anything else. FULLSTOP

Apple is the spark in the OS environment as ANY company’s or individual’s goal at the end is to be or to have a product as good as an Apple! I mean listen to you guys, doesn’t matter what smartphone you boast, you just have to prove yourself and to who ever cares that it is better than an IPHONE. OBVIOUSLY the iPhone is the standardll!!!!

Take this from a professional in the OS business… iPhone IS the best oveall phone in the world!!!

  18. For all the retarded Android butt lovers out there… If you haven’t really spent the time with both operating systems then you can’t pass a good judgement.
Yes you can run flash on iPhone and its just as good as running flash on Android… Jailbreak and get Skyfire app
Yes it can multi-task…. first came when iOS 3.0 came out duh
OMG if you can’t take a whole 2 mins to jailbreak it then you really are retarded… can always revert back seamlessly and will not void warranty like rooting your gay android device.
    jailbreaking is free dummies
NO.. Apple is not the first company to make a smartphone ever duh duh duh… just the first to perfect it.

Oh one more thing 4g don’t make me laugh.. not enough coverage vs 3g..and by the time it takes over 3g coverage iPhone 5 will be out, it will have 4g.
Expandable memory?? Who needs it when you have a cloud??
Lag really??? OMFG who cares if it has a slightly bigger processor?? Its up to OS to make everything run smoothly…. last time I checked ice cream sandwich is still in beta form which means it will be BUGGY.. can anyone say bigger lag times??
My iPhone can do anything your Droid can do only better.
There are about 100 different android phones made by several different company’s but only five iPhones made by one… compare that haha

  19. Here’s a quick thought, the IPhone is so spectacular YET it uses SAMSUNG CHIPS in it, hmmmm…..go figure, the nexus has dualcore 1.2 GHZ processors CLOCKED at 1.2, the IPhone’s 1 GHZ dual cores were clocked at .8, nexus also has twice the RAM, and a camera ?? seriously ? who gives a crap about a camera other than facebook junkies and don’t we all own 14 – 16Megapixel cameras already anyway

  20. Apple has all this proprietary crap and is extremely locked down.. Tell me why the F**K do I have to have a playlist on iTunes just to transfer music from my laptop to my Iphone?? you can’t even transfer single music files directly over from your itunes library unless you change settings to manual.. Screw that. As an IT guru I also like having the flexibility of adding music as I please without worrying about playlists. I also like the ability to root my phone as I please.. I love that my processor is faster than the Iphone’s . Yeah the Iphone may have been the first but if someone makes something BETTER go for it.. If you are trying to argue that point then in that case we would all be stuck driving the same model car because no one other company would be able to compete with it.. Apple sucks…

  21. Android? Limited? Funny, its Open-Source, you dumbass, We, the people are in control of the future now, not your Apple alone. As we innovate, your shitty iPhone will just copy us just like the iPhone 4s did with the notification bar. The Galaxy Nexus beats the iPhone in every way (Spec wise) EXCEPT the camera, but megapixels barely mean anything, if youve ever done your research. The Galaxy Nexus, can do WHATEVER your iPhone can, way better, and with more features. Sure you make more money, but thats because idiots like you buy there outdated products. And sure they have more apps, but thats all they CAN do, we have developers making roms, kernals, shit you would never imagine since your stuck with your locked down iPhone. More money from apps? Hmm…Maybe thats cuz we can get all our apps free *Gasp*. Android is WAYYYY more customizable then the iPhone will ever be. I could turn my MyTouch 4G into any phone i want, and it came out LAST YEAR. Thanks to custom roms, Themes and launchers, i dont have to wait for Updates that do nothing but copy! I can change what anything looks like or does. With Android, the phone is truly yours, with the iPhone, youre just one of many.

  22. Let’s not get all emotional and over-analytical here, folks.

In terms of features, Google has MUCH more to offer a user than Apple does. Google offers such a wide variety of amazing services that Apple is just now starting to hop on board with (iCloud? Hello, Google-years-ago). The pull-down notifications? Copied. All of the companies are doing their fair share of copying in the samrt phone world. Pointing fingers does no one any good, and makes you look like a fool.

I have an iPhone 4. I recently upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus. After a day of messing with it, I’m back with my iPhone. The reason? I, as an individual, happen to prefer the fluidity of iOS over Android. Let’s get real for a hot second here, Google- you have DUAL-CORE processor phones, and have upgraded Android more times than I can count. And you STILL lag, have ugly screen transitions, and fail to be nearly as smooth as iOS. Again, this is personal preference. I just think that Apple is a perfectionist company when it comes to their products, and although they are lagging behind feature-wise, few of them are features that are necessary (NFC is completely useless to most people still). I would personally rather have a locked phone that does what it does WELL than an unlocked phone with tons of features that lags here and there and performs at a sub-optimal level all of the time.

Plus, no offense to Samsung… (actually, offense to Samsung)… The GN phone design is TERRIBLE in my opinion. It’s extremely flimsy and feels like I’m holding a child’s toy phone.

    Annnnnnd that’s my two cents.

  23. Oh, and @Pete, 2 things.

1- ‘Rooting’ on Android devices is just as reversible as ‘jailbreaking’ an iPhone is. I’ve done both.
2- iOS 3 did NOT have multitasking. I’m not sure where that even came from. All it had was the ability to switch between apps more easily. Switching from one app to another IS NOT MULTITASKING.
