Social networking giant Facebook is in expansion mood. The company is planning a huge engineering office in New York City as early as in year 2012. It is also planning to go for $10 billion IPO pretty soon.
There are also reports that Social networking giant that boasts of as many as 800 million users base is planning to hire thousands of engineers to boost its technical background and give the social networking business a more serious look.
It is also planning more acquisitions in the near future. The most recent acquisition of Facebook is Gowalla that it has reportedly bought for a big amount. The location sharing website has tried to redevelop itself as a travel portal and when we last heard it was planning to come out with as many as 60 guides for 60 cities. This is certainly going to help Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook Chief Executive Officer improve the location service of Facebook.
Facebook has grown tremendously in the last few years and now it is in direct conflict with another web giant Google, the biggest search engine in the market. Facebook sometimes ago banned Google Plus ads on its website.
Right now Facebook is trying to attract talents from leading tech universities in the US and beyond. Zuckerberg recent interacted with students and faculty at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Regarding their New York City plans, a senior Facebook official Mike Schroepfer has this to say, “New York has a strong history of innovation and is home to thousands of talented technical people, and we want them to help us solve the challenges of designing and building the next generation of Facebook”.
