Facebook plagued by spam virus

Facebook is a treacherous place to be these days. The social network website has been plagued by a spam virus that is flooding the walls of users with gruesome images of beastiality and pornography. Emil Protalinski at ZDnet reported that the spam includes loads of hardcore pornography, self-mutilation and a variety of other very-NSFW pictures.

The presence of the virus has been noticed by Facebook and it stated, “Facebook is aware of these reports and we are investigating the issue.”

The Facebook spokesperson added that the virus has been traced to someone tagged Anonymous. The name, obviously, is no consolation to thousands of harried users on Facebook.

The problem is rampant and is afflicting the accounts of one and all.

Actress Courtney Zito was reported to have wailed, “I have 5000 friends. My feed is littered with porn. I can’t even check my news feed with anyone around because of it.”

Twitter is also filled with troubled users who are reporting their woes from the virus. The virus attacks the user when a malicious link is unwittingly clicked by the user. Following this, the virus spams the users’ friends with the violent and pornographic images.

Tweets like these are flooding Twitter. One tweet by @_Ms_Ash stated, “What is all the crap on Facebook now? I can’t even go on there without seeing porn or gory violence. Its disgusting.”

@SMASHGORDON_FTW  tweeted, “Yep looks to me like facebook has been hacked on some level. M]Y entire news feed is filled with violence and porn.”

It has been reported that the nasty cyber-attack might be the handiwork of Anonymous. Members of this group had previously vowed to launch an attack on the social network. They were rubbed the wrong way and they claimed the reason for their attack as a retribution for “selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world.”
