Jailbroken Siri obeys hackers’ thoughts now!

Siri can talk to you and assist you. But wouldn’t it have been better if she could read your mind, and establish a mental connection that you just have to think about something to have it done by Siri?

Would have been great, so thought hackers and they set to make it true. Then they jailbroke Siri and made her read their minds. It is true and no fantasy story that the geeks of Project Black Mirror did this in real life. They hooked up an iPhone 4S to an elaborate Arduino / MacBook Pro control setup. Then they placed calls by activating Siri with the home button and started thinking about who they wanted to call.

The hackers hooked up the apparatus to ECG pads that capture analog brain waves that are fed into the board hooked up to the iPhone 4S. This has in it the program that helps Siri recognize commands (like call, reminder, and so forth) from the ECG pads. The it sends them to a voice synthesizer chip.

The trick is that Siri is not being controlled by your mind here, rather by the voice commands created by the synthesizer. Those commands are received by Siri through the iPhone’s microphone jack and she just does the usual – place a call!

Though the sounds of it are pretty awesome with ‘mind-reading’ and ‘mind-controlling’ kind of phenomena being used, but the hardware and system is not very impressive due to the bulk. Project Black Mirror knows this and so is planning to have this polished and get it to the masses through a Kickstarter campaign, so that they gain popularity, support, and then the funding!
