Google Plus vs Facebook fight begins as G Plus opened for all

Social networking giant Facebook should be apprehensive. Google Plus vs Facebook fight seems to have begun as G Plus opened for all

Google+ has finally been thrown open. People were feeling disappointed by the delay in opening up of the social networking arm of the search engine giant.

By the way it is not the first time that Google has dabbled in social networking, that many said was the next best thing to happen to the internet.

Sometimes ago Google had introduced Google Buzz, but that failed to catch the attention of the social networking aficionados. But even before that the search giant had doled out big time money to takeover Orkut. This is a social networking website that is still used by many people especially in Brazil and to some extent in India.

A quick look at Alexa.com shows that the website is 12th most popular website in Brazil and 30th most popular website in India. But in other parts of the world, it is almost a forgotten thing.

A fortnight ago or so Google announced that it was allowing the developers to work on it to make the website more user friendly. This aspect is going to help Google’s cause.

Google has worked hard to avoid the same issues that were raised about Facebook’s privacy policies. Google Plus privacy policy can be changed any time after becoming its member

The users who have joined its social networking site Google Plus will have to make some privacy settings so that their data information may not be shared by the groups to whom they so not want.  The social networking site has provided a distinguished feature ‘Circles’ for the users so that they might avail such facility of not sharing the information from the strangers.

The Parts of the Google+ account of the users will be searchable on the Web. To see what others, who are not part of your “circles” will see when they go to your account, first click on the circle that looks like a gear next to your picture in the upper right corner, then select “Google+ settings.”

This will bring you to the Google+ settings page. By clicking on  “Profile and Privacy” in the left column, those who already use Google services, such as Gmail, Google Profiles, or Blogger may have some information automatically downloaded into Google+ when they sign up. So, parts of your profile may already be filled in for you.

If you want to see how your profile looks to others, click “Edit visibility on profile” in the middle of the page. Now, you will see your profile. Similarly to see how your profile looks to anyone else on the web, click inside the “View profile as…” box on the right side of the screen, then select “Anyone on the web.” This is how your profile would look to anyone else on the Web. You can also enter the name of a person from one of your circles to see what your profile looks like to them.
