Aligarh: The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has served a letter to the AMU Registrar requesting therein to start the process of selection of next Vice Chancellor and clarified that the earlier letter sent by MHRD in this connection should not be construed as an authorization for calling the meeting of the University Court. The Ministry has also clarified that the directions of the Visitor issued by the Ministry vide Show Cause Notice to keep the meeting of the Court in abeyance, are still in operation.
On the basis of the directions of the Visitor, MHRD has requested that the University may call a meeting of the Executive Council and draw the requisite vice chancellor’s panel of names in terms of Statute 2(1) of the Statutes of the University and then submit a formal proposal to the MHRD for seeking the Visitors permission to hold the meeting of the University Court for preparing a panel for appointment of the Vice Chancellor.
MHRD has also conveyed the Visitor’s directives that Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis who is completing his term in office on Jan 17, 2012 to refrain from making any appointment and promotion and take any policy decision which may have long term financial or other implications on the executive and academic functioning of the University.
