Chandigarh: The Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration is organizing various functions to celebrate Van Mahotsav-2011. In this series, Herbal Plantation Day was celebrated on 18th July, 2011 in various schools of U.T. Chandigarh, during which Herbal/ Medicinal Plants were planted within school premises. Ceremonial plantation of Herbal Plantation Day was organized at Institute of Blind, Sector-26, Chandigarh by the Department of Forest & Wildlife in collaboration with ‘DEEKSHA’- Non Government Organisation.
Santosh Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests & Director Environment, Chandigarh Administration was Chief Guest on the occasion. On this occasion, Tripat Parmar, Director, DEEKSHA – NGO, Chairman of Institute of Blind, Sector-26, Saurabh Kumar, DCF were also present. On this event, a theme based Sensory Garden was established at the Institute of Blind. Various Herbal Plants which could be identified by Taste (like Stevia, Kalmegh, Brahmi, Akarkara etc.), by Touch (Aloevera, Satabari, Giloe, etc.) and by Smell (Citronella, Lemon, Vitiver Grass, etc.) were planted. On this occasion, Santosh Kumar, Conservator of Forests & Director Environment requested Institute of Blind authorities that a full-fledged Eco-Club may be constituted in the Institute of Blind and the students may be actively involved in various activities of the Eco-Clubs in the Chandigarh. He also added that possibilities may also be explored to create Hanging Garden of Fragrance within Institute premises, which will further add to the landscape and beautify the Residential as well as Institute Complex.
