Chandigarh: Department of Education, Chandigarh Administration today honored meritorious students and Principals of Govt. Schools in a function organized at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-10, Chandigarh. Finance-cum-Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, Mr. V.K. Singh, presided over the function and gave away the prizes.
Addressing the students Mr. Singh said that it is very satisfying to see the students of government schools scoring so high in the board examinations. He said that it shows that the education system in the city school is really good and need to be maintained. He also congratulated the teachers and school principals for helping and encouraging the students to get through the all odds. Mr. Singh said that the Govt. of India is starting some new vocational programmes and he emphasized the students to adopt the vocational education for better jobs in the future.
40 students of different govt. schools who scored a prefect Cumulative Grade Point Assessment of 10 were honored along with the first three merit positions holders of 4 streams of Class XII i.e. Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational.
Vivek Mehta of GMSSS-35 and Ankit Sharma of GSSS-MM Town, the first position holders of Model and Non Model Govt. Schools of Chandigarh respectively were also honored and awarded a laptop each which was sponsored by Axis Bank.
Principals of the schools which showed 90% and above results in Class XII CBSE Annual Exam, schools which showed increase of 10% or above over the previous year result in Class XII exam and also Principals of those schools where students scored a perfect CGPS of 10 were also felicitated.
Later the Education Secretary had an in formal interaction with Students, Parents, Teachers and Principals and answered their queries and shared the emerging new educational scenario with them.
