Himachali Poacher Killed, two Haryana officials injured in encounter

Nahan: An encounter between the poachers and wild life guards of Haryana wild life department lead to killing of alleged poacher Raj Pal Singh (28) of Kishan Pura village in Paonta sahib and the injury to two wild life guards of Haryana. As per as the information a group of poachers from Paonta sahib area entered into the Kelesar National park  for poaching adjacent to the  Simbealwara sanctuary of Himachal late evening during which heavy open  firing started between the guards and poachers. SP Yamunagar (Haryana) when contacted confirmed that on the basis of the complaint of wild life staff a case have been lodged in Khidrabad police satiation and added that the weapons were yet to be recovered. Sources said that before firing there was a stone pelting by the poachers for preventing their catching   by the wild life staff of Haryana, in the meantime the wild life staff started chasing the poachers during which firing started. Sources also said that poachers also tried to snatch the weapons of the wild life staff in the meantime a bullet was fired on the feet’s of the Ram pal. According to the information the poachers escaped from the spot with carrying the seriously injured Ram Pal Singh on their shoulders who was carried to his house in a vehicle but died on the way to hospital. The body was handed to next kin of the family after conducting the postmortem at Paonta sahib by Haryana Police. On the other hand Suresh Kumar of Haryana wild life was sustained with bullet injuries while other faced injuries during the stone pelting.

Sources said that the incidence took place at Panni wala khol inside the Kelesar national a park. Kalesar National Park is situated in the foot hills of Shiwalik ranges of mighty Himalayas. The national park  houses many threatened animals like Leopard, Ghoral, Barking deer, Sambar, Chital, Python, King Cobra, Monitor lizard etc. Occasionally Tigers and Elephants visit this park from Rajaji National Park. If little improvement in habitat management is done in this park, tigers and elephants may stay throughout the year. So this park is very important in conservation of highly threatened animals like tiger and elephant. This habitat can provide alternate home for these two animals coming from Rajaji National Park. Sources also said that the same condition of housing of wild animals also prevails in the simbelwara sanctuary of the state. It is learnt that to the north of National Park simbalwada Wildlife Sanctuary (Himachal Pradesh) is there separated by ridge line and marked by pillars. As per as the information the national park of Haryana and Simbelwara sanctuary also remains under the threat of poaching as population of wild animals was continuously increasing.

On the other hand Principal Chief Conservator of forest Vinay Tondon who was also staying in the Simbelwara sanctuary last night said that the details of the incidence was being taken from Haryana wild life and also feel proper coordination between both the state against the poaching. He said that the Himachal wild life department would cooperate neighboring state against the poaching.
