Chandigarh: The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda has approved the proposal to institute three new State level awards to honour those women who have excelled in various fields and shown exemplary courage.
While stating this here today, the Haryana Finance Minister, Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav said that three State level awards namely India Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award, Kalpna Chawla Shoriya Award and Bahin Shanno Devi Panchyati Raj Award have been instituted.
India Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award would carry Rs. one lakh whereas Kalpna Chawla Shoriya Award and Bahin Shanno Devi Panchyati Raj Award would carry Rs. 51,000 each, he added.
The Minister said that India Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award has been named after former Prime Minister Late Mrs. India Gandhi. The award would be given to those women who have excelled and done selfless service to the society and are a role model for others as a result of
their exemplary work in the rehabilitation of women and children, especially in difficult circumstances, and promoting self help groups and taking initiatives for women empowerment.
Kalpna Chawla Shoriya Award has been named after famous astronaut Kalpna Chawla of Karnal and it would be given to those women who have shown exemplary courage while risking their own lives. The award would give due recognition to the women who have performed acts of bravery and done meritorious services to the society, he added. Mr. Yadav said that Bahin Shanno Devi Panchyati Raj Award has been named after first women Speaker in Haryana. This award would be given to those women panchayat leaders who have done outstanding work in the field of women empowerment and in the areas of female literacy, health, nutrition, universalization of education and environmental
protection.
