Jammu: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy today visited 7.5 MW small hydro project at Athwathoo in Jammu and Kashmir. This is one of the 10 small hydro projects in the State allotted to private developers. This project was commissioned in July, 2009. Dr. Abdullah held detailed discussions about availability of water, generation of power and evacuation of power facilities, etc.
The Union Minister who is on two day visit to the State also paid a short visit to 15 MW Ganderbal small hydro project. Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has sanctioned Rs. 10 crores for renovation and modernization of this plant. Dr. Farooq Abdullah told the State Government to take early action for completion of the project so that power generated can be utilized for electricity needs of the district and nearby areas.
Dr. Abdullah also inaugurated a 8.8 KW solar wind hybrid plant at SDH Ganderbal. This is one of the 5 solar wind hybrid projects sanctioned by MNRE to the State of Jammu and Kashmir. This project will generate 6.6 KW power from wind energy, 2.2 KW from solar photovoltaics. Electricity generated through this project will be locally utilized.
