50% diabetes patents are vulnerable to the heart diseases: Prof Rabbani
Aligarh: Eminent cardiologist and Director, Cardiology Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. M. U. Rabbani has said that about fifty percent diabetes patents are vulnerable to the heart diseases of which only 20 percent people are aware of the cardiac problems. Most of such cases are diagnosed at the time of fitness check up when preparing for a surgery.
Prof. Rabbani was addressing the valedictory session of VIII State Diabetes Convention “UPDCON-2009”. He said the patients who are suffering from diabetes for a long time and simultaneously are affected with hypertension or increased cholesterol are advised to get their cardiology checkups done at the earliest. Prof. Rabbani said that the patients who do not show up any symptom of cardiac problem in spite of being a positive heart patient need only extensive medical aid and only 5% of patients need angiography.
Prof. Rabbani said that the number of heart patients is increasing fast in the country on account of increased diabetes onslaught. He said that people should keep a regular medical checkup for heart ailments so that such cases are diagnosed in initial stage.
