Sirmour wins overall trophy in 26th state women sports
Nahan: After winning four out of total seven events host team Sirmaur captured overall trophy in the three days 26th state women sports festival which concluded this evening. Chief Secretary Mrs. Aasha swaroop gave away the trophies to winner.
More than five hundred women players took part in the sports festival. Among the distinguished guests sports director J.R. Katwal was also present in the concluding function of the festival. Before becoming the overall champion host team defeated Mandi, Shimla and Kangra in basketball, badmintion and hockey respectively. However Sirmaur captured the trophy in the table tennis on the basis of the league matches in which Kangra was declare runners up. Similar to previous year Hamirpur was declared best in the athletics. Kangra district was declare runners up. In the 400 meter race Rajneesh (kangra) stood first while Sonika and jyoti of Hamirpur was declare second and third respectively. Solan district captured the best march-past trophy in three days sports festival. Despite the presence of international player Aruna Tomar in the team host lost the final of volleyball to Shimla in three straight sets. Similar to this host team also lost the final match by Bilaspur district in Kabbadi in which Nirmala thakur was also present who had been selected for the Indian camp for junior national team. Three outstanding players Aarjoo thakur (badminton), Aruna Tomar (volleyball) and Nirmala thakur (Kabbadi) were among the overall champion squad, while Neha (hockey) was among the Kangra district squad.Ms Neha was the only player from the SAI hostel Dharmshala who was the member in the combined university team. SAI hostel coach Mohinder puri said that Neha was also selected for the Junior India women hockey team. On the occasion chief secretary Aasha swaroop said that government was committed for the development of basic infrastructure in the sports.
