Film Festival concludes at Gaiety Theatre in Himachal
Shimla: A Three day long festival of films of Shyam Benegal concluded at Gaiety Theatre here today with the screening of ‘Zubeida’ feature film. In all five feature films viz. ‘Manthan’, ‘Bhumika’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Welcome to Sajjanpur’, ‘Zubeida’ were screened during first ever film festival held at Shimla. The film festival was organized under the auspices of Information and Public Relations Department in collaboration with National Film Archive of India, Pune.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Smt. Asha Swaroop, Chief Secretary Himachal said that a lot of enthusiasm had been witnessed by the cinema lovers during three day film festival. Now the State Government was planning to make it a regular feature. She urged the Director of National Film Archive of India to extend its help in holding of such film festivals in Himachal Pradesh in future.
Mr. Shyam Benegal, noted Producer and Director said that Gaiety Theatre had emerged as prominent and pioneer cultural complex and hub of the country as this complex had immense potential and possibilities for organising of all types of cultural events.
Welcoming the Smt. Asha Swaroop, Benegal and other guests, Ram Subhag Singh, Secretary, Information and Public Relations said that a yearly calender of events will be prepared for the programmes to be organized at Gaiety Theatre and State Government would make all out efforts to make it a centre of cultural awareness. He said that film projection system will be improved with latest technology in the Gaiety Theatre soon.
Vijay K. Jadhav, Director, of National Film Archive of India Pune said that purpose of films was not only entertainment but these reflect the culture, art and civilization of our country. A week long Film Appreciation course being held at Shimla in collaboration with Information and Public Relations Department would go a long way in spreading awareness among people about the films.









I’m very happy to read this news about the film festival in Shimla. If I would have known about this before, I would have attended it. But the Himachal govt website didn’t updated any event details like this. Please tell me from where can i recieve any information regarding such events in himachal.
