Journalism students in Himachal waiting for syllabus

Nahan: Despite the appointment of lecturers for certificate course in Journalism and mass communication in 12 degree colleges of Himachal Pradesh the syllabus of the course is yet to be finalized. Sources said that the department had decided to introduce the additional subject of Journalism and mass communication in 12 colleges from the current academic session but without the syllabus the classed might not be started. It is worthwhile to mention here that the academic session have already been started across the state in colleges. The students would have additional subject of Journalism with their subjects of graduation.

Sources added that the lecturers have joined their stations recently but they did not know the syllabus. As per as the further information the department was already running the course in UNA degree college so that there was full chance that the carbon copy of this syllabus could be introduce in other colleges also. As per as the arrangements of this course the student could take this additional certificate course (One year) by paying the separate fee for the purpose. After the certificate course there would be provision of diploma and advance diploma courses in next two years. Sources said that there was no justification in introducing this course as student would take it as a hobby subject, other wise it would have better to introduce three BJMC course instead of this .As per as the information on the request of the education department university frames the syllabus, the same request was reportedly been pending on before the university.

When contacted, Secretary Education Sh P.C.Dhiman said that he would look into the matter and director would be asked to act immediately on the issue. On the other hand Chairperson Smt Veer bala aggarwal of Journalism department of HP University said that the issue was came to department which was forwarded to faculty. She added that the faculty informed her that for the purpose university had already constituted a committee which would approve the syllabus.
