1500 years old Tibetan Buddhist nation passing through death sentence
Dharmshala: Tibetan Spiritual Leader the Dalai Lama has said that the Tibetan nation according to archaeological findings is at least 10-20 thousand years old and the Tibetan Buddhism is at least 1500 years old. But, the Dalai Lama institution is only few centuries old. So in future, logically the Dalai Lama institution may go, but the Tibetan nation will remain.
Dalai Lama further added that the Tibet is passing through ’something like a death sentence’. “Any nation without spirit is just dead, so the Chinese officials in Tibet are now deliberately trying to eliminate the Tibetan spirit and Tibetan culture.” “On Tibet issue, if viewed locally, yes, we are hopeless but if you look at it in a wider perspective there is hope coming from Chinese people.” “The unfortunate thing is that the Chinese people have no opportunity to access the reality as there is strict censorship and distorted information come from the government, Dalai Lama added.
Dalai Lama reiterated that his faith in the Chinese people is unshaken despite his thinning faith in the government of the People’s Republic of China. Dalai Lama said that about 300 articles written by Chinese people after the March 2008 in support of Tibet were indications of Chinese people’s support to the people of Tibet.
He made it clear that his health is good and there is no hurry about that and said that it is up to the Tibetan people whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue or not.
“Some people have impression that the Dalai Lama institution is so important for Tibetan nation, but it is not true. In certain period yes, it became important as it is almost like a symbol of Tibetan culture and Tibetan nation. But it can change now,” he said.
