Himachal to create mass ecological awareness through film
Shimla: The State Government would endeavour to create mass awareness about the environment through screening a short documentary film titled ‘ For Whom the Jingle Bells Toll’, produced and directed by a young film maker Vivek Mohan, hailing from Shimla town, in various educational institutions all over the State to motivate young people to educate others about the ecological safeguards in association with the Education and Environment Protection departments. This was revealed by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, after Vivek Mohan, the film maker presented a copy of the half hour duration film to him here today.
Chief Minister said that environment had emerged a matter of global concern and people from all walks of life were required to be educated about the drastic impact of the global warming and degradation of the environment with it. He said that mass awareness campaigns had already been launched by the State Government through different channels available at its command and by roping in NGOs engaged in such activities so that it could emerge a mass movement. He said that the State Government had also created Himachal Environment Fund to collect donations for protection of the environment from the people. He said that many organizations and individuals had been coming forward to contribute liberally towards the same so that all such money collected could be utilized for the environment protection activities. He said that motive behind creation of the Fund had been to involve people from all walks of life in the movement and make it successful with their active cooperation.
Prof. Dhumal said that students were the future citizens of the country which besides formal education also needed to be educated in the environment protection activities. He said that the proposed film would help in inculcation of the awareness and responsibility towards the environment so that they could grow up as aware and enlightened citizens. He said that students would be the Ambassadors of Environment Protection in coming years.
Smt. Manisha Nanda, Secretary Tourism, Dr. Nagin Nanda, Director of Pollution Control and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
