Many BJP leaders may join Congress: Kaul Singh

Monika Sharma writes Jawalamukhi: The State President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Kaul Singh Thakur said that the campaign to strengthen the Congress was riding a high wave and many more BJP leaders are in contact with the party.

Though senior BJP leader Maheshwar Singh has ruled out joining the Congress, there are other big BJP leaders who are ready to switchover in the coming days, claimed Kaul. Addressing an workshop of AICC Rahul Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sandhathan at Jawaalmukhi in Kangra  today, Kaul Singh said the party has succeeded in dwarfing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the state by winning over Karan Singh and later, with the exit of Vijai Singh Mankotia from active politics.

He demanded that the government should implement the retention policy for regularization of unauthorized structures. He condemned the latest decision of the government as per which the electricity and IPH department have been directed by the town and country planning (TCP) department to cut off all power, water and sewerage connection to the buildings within Shimla Municipal Corporation for which no-objection certificates have not been obtained from the TCP.

“The government is harassing people this way. Despite there being a provision to give relief to people through implementation of retention policy, the government is going for an action that would harm at least 30 per cent buildings in the town,” said Kaul Singh.
