34th State Science Exhibition in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra today inaugurated the 34th State Science Exhibition at State Institute of Education Sector 32. The exhibition has been organized in collaboration with NCERT, New Delhi. The exhibition will remain open till November 7. The theme of the exhibition is Science and Technology for Global Sustainability and the sub-themes are Agricultural and Food Security, Harnessing Energy, Conservation of Natural Resources, Combating Climate Change, Disaster Management and Mathematical Modeling.
Adviser took round of the exhibition and students explained him about the functioning of the models. He applauded the efforts of the students on the occasion. Mr. Mehra said that children have touched upon the major issues relating to climate change, which shows children of today are very conscious of changing environment and its effects. He stressed upon the need of organizing such exhibitions, as these are extremely important for making children aware of how they can contribute to the cause of global sustainability.
Total 60 schools of the city beautiful are participating in the exhibition. The exhibition will be open for general public from 8 am to 2 pm. The exhibition is held every year with its major objective, to popularize science among children, teachers and public in general. It unleashes a wave of creativity and scientific temperament amongst them and enables them to examine and analyze their everyday experiences. Such exhibitions make the young scientists think about the need to understand linkages between local and global issues.
As many as 140 exhibits revealing solutions on the issues relating to environmental problems are displayed by the students of different schools. Most of the models were examples of great innovation and scientific creativity. Prizes worth Rs. 1000, Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 will be given to students achieving first, second and third positions respectively. UT Special Secretary Finance, Mrs. Raji P Shrivastava, DPI(S), Mr. Samwartak Singh and other distinguished guests were present during the inaugural function.
