Rs. 200 crore released for the construction of Renuka dam project

Shimla: A Spokesman of the State Government disclosed here today that the Delhi Government has released Rs. 200 crore for the construction of Renuka dam project in Sirmour district of the State.
He said that the entire 40 MW power produced in the project would come to Himachal Pradesh and added that the State Government would spend Rs. 200 crore for construction of Power House.
He further said that H.P. Power Corporation Limited has been assigned the task of constructing the project at a cost of about Rs. 2500 crore and added that Corporation has been directed to expedite the work on the project and award the main civil work contract by June, 2009.
The Spokesman said that utmost care would be taken to ensure proper rehabilitation of the affected families and to improve their quality of life further. He said that the amount received from Delhi Government, would be utilized for acquisition of around 2000 hectares of land besides relief and rehabilitation payments for forest land.
He further said that it has been declared as a project of national importance and added that Government of India would bear 90 per cent of the project cost. He said that the project would supply 23 cumics of drinking water to Delhi during non-monsoon months, which would provide funds till Government of India makes funds available.
