US President Bush calls Dalai Lama

Monika Sharma writes from Mclodganj: US President George W Bush made a Telephone call to His Holiness the Dalai Lama Today to inquire about his health.

 Bush called Tibetan spiritual Leader Dalai Lama who is in Dharmshala in these days from New York where he is attending the U.N. General Assembly’s annual meeting.

Mr Chhime R. Chhoekyapa, secretary to His Holiness the Dalai Lama said: “The phone call came today. His Holiness was supposed to have gone to Mexico and some other places and also to Washington to meet the president earlier this month.”

“Since he had to cancel that trip because of not being well, the president called to ask about his health,” Chhoekyapa said His Holiness the Dalai Lama is well.

                      His Holiness the Dalai Lama will confer a three-day teaching on “Je Tsongkhapa’s Song of the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment” from 25 – 27 September at Dharmshala in Himachal Pardesh of India.

His Holiness will also give a five-day teaching on “Arya Nagarjuna’s Commentary on Bodhicitta” and “Kamalashila’s The Middling Stages of Meditation” from 30 September to 4 October.

Meanwhile, 5th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet scheduled for October 20-21, 2008 at Paris, France has been postponed indefinitely due to the cancellation of the programs of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Europe around that time.

The Speaker Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile in a press note offered deep apologies and regrets the inconvenience caused to our friends and supporters. The next date of the convention is being worked out and it will be intimated to all concerned at the earliest.
