Shimla: A Spokesman of Social Justice and Empowerment said here today that the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Govt. of India has introduced a scheme “Post Matric Scholarship” for the students belonging to the minority communities for pursuing higher education from class XI upto Ph.D and technical and vocational courses of Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centres (affiliated with NCVT) in Government school/college/Institute or school/college/Institute recognized by appropriate authority. He said that the objective of the scheme is to award scholarship to the meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority communities to enable them to pursue higher education from class XI to Ph.D. and technical vocational courses of class XI and XII level for enhancing their employability.
Spokesman further said that the scholarship would be given to the students, pursuing studies from Class XI to Ph.D. from Government /recognized private school/college/institute including technical and vocational courses of class XI and XII level in Industrial Training Institutes/Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training. He said that eligible, students should have not less than 50 percent marks in the previous final examination. Students from BPL families, having the lowest income would be given preference, he added. He told that a scholarship holder under this scheme would not avail of any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the same course. The annual income, from all sources, of the students’ parents or guardian should not exceed Rs. 2 lac, he added. He further said that 30 percent of scholarship would be earmarked for girl students. In case girl students are not available then the scholarships earmarked for them will be awarded to eligible boy students, he added. He said that scholarships would not be given to more than two students in a family.
Spokesman said that during the current financial year, 113 scholarships would be provided and 49 Muslims, 4 Christens, 30 Sikhs and 4 Buddhists will be covered under the scheme. The applications on the prescribed proforma has been invited through respective Head of Institution and the last date of receipt of applications is 15th February, 2008.

Shimla, Director, Medical Education, Shimla, Director Technical Education, Sundernagar, Registrar Institute of Information & Technology Hamirpur, Registrar, Himachal Pradesh University Shimla, Registrar H.P. Horticulture & Forestry University Nauni, District Solan, Registrar, H.P. Agriculture University Palmpur, District Kangra and all the District Welfare Officers.
