Chandigarh College of Arts participates in the U N Population Fund-India Arts for Social Change Awards
Chandigarh : Chandigarh Government College of Arts will participate in the United Nations Population Fund- India (UNFPA) Arts for Social Change Awards: First National Painting Competition 2008 which is being organized by Centre for Media Studies in association with the College of Arts, New Delhi. The ten students from the Chandigarh Government College of Arts would be contributing their artistic might in the visual campaign against the female foeticide.
The nation-wide competition is an initiative of UNFPAIndia. The message of the competition is, “Delighting in Daughters”. The quest is open to final year painting students of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA). The
talented art students through original paintings will highlight the positive image and message of the girl child. The main aim of the UNFPA Art for Social Change Awards is to generate public discourse on the positive portrayal of daughters and women and to raise awareness. Till now, about 88 Art Colleges have been contacted and 49 colleges have confirmed their participation, reaching out to 25 states and 67 cities, throughout the country.
The entries for the competition would be received till February 29 and the winners will be announced in April in New Delhi. The 1st prize carries a cash award of Rs. 50,000 while the second and third prize carries a cash award of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. Besides this, fifty nominated paintings will receive Rs. 5,000 each. Paintings that are nominated and selected winners at the UNFPA Art for Social Change Awards will be taken on country-wide traveling exhibitions, giving the artists and their message of hope for the girl child a wider audience and platform.
