Himachal Seeks AIIMS like Institutions in the State
Shimla : Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister has requested the Centre to set up premier education and health institutions like AIIMS etc in the State so as to make Himachal Pradesh an education hub of the country.
He met Union Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram at New Delhi today and requested him to set up institutes like IIMs, IITs, NIFD and other such prestigious institutions. He also urged to formulate an ambitious plan to upgrade technical skill institutes in the State.
Chief Minister urged the Centre to sanction Rs. 800 crore for Shimla Water Supply Scheme under Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Mission and added that technical feasibility of this scheme has been established by independent external consultants who are in the process of preparing the detailed project report. He said that the scheme will be completed in four years and told that pumping energy of around 100 crore per annum would be saved on completion of project and added that the saved energy would be diverted for power requirement of northern grid.
Prof. Dhumal demanded the setting up of eco task force comprising of ex servicemen for preserving the ecology and environment of Himachal Pradesh and told that eco task force of Territorial Army has been raised for Catchment Areas Treatment Plan of one Hydro Electric Project and stressed the need for setting up of more such task forces.
Chief Minister demanded extension of industrial package up to the year 2013 so that the industrialization process could be completed. He told that State Government has sent proposals for execution of 856-megawatt projects to the Central Government and Union Power Ministry has recommended these projects to Department of Economic Affairs for getting funds under Asian Development Bank. He demanded that funding of these projects should be in the ratio of 90:10 (grant and loan).
He also requested the Central Government to initiate proper action for setting up of an I I T and Central University in the State as per the announcement of Union Finance Minister in Shimla on 2nd October 2007.
Shri P. Chidambaram assured the Chief Minister that Centre Government will initiate positive action on the demand of the State Government and told that Centre will provide liberal financial assistance to State Government for expediting the development process of the State.
