Chandigarh : District Administration would give Rs.2,000/- to 79 Jhuggies as relief for fire in Colony No. 5, Chandigarh out of District Relief Fund. Deputy Commissioner, Mr R.K.Rao has ordered a regular inquiry into the cause of incident. SDM (South), Mr Shurbir Singh, would conduct a detailed inquiry to find out the causes of fire and report within a period of 15 days.

District Administration has clarified that there was no laxity on the part of administration in providing quick succor to the fire victims of fire incident of 1st December, 2007. The fire brigade reached the spot immediately and extinguished the fire. A child Anuj son of Shri Bhanu aged four years was alone in the jhuggi when fire broke and he succumbed to the burns and injuries on the spot. Another person got fire burns, who was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh and was given prompt medical treatment and discharged. DC had earlier also ordered a relief of Rs.50,000/- to the family of the deceased boy and Rs.5,000/- to the injured.

The administration extended all necessary help to the victims of 79 jhuggies gutted in the fire. All the affected persons were shifted to the nearby government dispensary for their night shelter. A tent was also erected for making provision of food and shelter.
