Chandigarh : Childrens Day was celebrated in Chandigarh with great enthusiasm. All the schools and other children oriented institutions of City Beautiful celebrated the Day with zeal and gusto. A major function was held at Bal Bhawan, Sector 23, here today. President of Indain Council for Child Welfare, Mrs. Jeans Rodrigues was the chief guest on the occasion.Mrs. Rodrigues gave prizes to the winners of the fancy dress competition on the occasion. Childrens presented various items including Bharatnattyam, group song, Bhangra and a combination of folk & western dance.Childrens Day is about celebrating childhood. On this day tributes are paid to all children in the world. India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was born on this day i.e. November 14 and because of his immense love for children this day is celebrated on his birthday. Childrens day is also celebrated to remember a leader who, in his quiet but determined way, laid the foundation to convert a nascent nation into a world power. Executive members, parents and childrens from different schools were also present on this occasion.
