The Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra inaugurates the Rock Garden Festival

Chandigarh : The Rock Garden Festival took off in a rocking fashion here today. The Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra inaugurated the festival andalso dedicated the Sound Proof Hall to the citizens of Chandigarh. Different festivities and celebrations are being organized in this festival which will be celebrated till November 11.Mr. Nek Chand, the Creator-Director of the Rock Garden, welcomed Mr. Pradip Mehra by presenting him a bouquet. Mr. Mehra entered the Rock Garden amidst Punjabi folk dancers performing ‘ bhangra’, school children’s in colourful dresses honoring him through their bands and also tri-coloured balloons being released in the open sky.Mr. Mehra, on the occasion, said Rock Garden was acknowledged as one of the modern wonders of the world.

The Garden is a museum in itself which could be considered anarchive, not of rare objects, but a record of people, their personal belongings and histories expressed through the sculptures, he added. “Rock Garden expresses the vulnerabilityof the environment and speaks of contemporary global concerns through imagination and ingenuity”, added Mr. Mehra. Mayor, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Mrs. HarjinderKaur said the Rock Garden speaks of the volume of vision that has been put in for making such an enticing and engrossing landmark from the junk and waste material. She also revered Mr. Nek Chand for creating such a world class piece of art forChandigarh.Mr. Nek Chand, in his address, revealed that the Sound Proof Hall took him a long period to complete and he had started working on the project 25 years ago.In another ceremony, Mr. Nek Chand presented Mr. Mehra, Mrs. Harjinder Kaur and other distinguished guests the passport for the Rock Garden. Many foreign and national delegates along with other senior officials and distinguished guests were also present tocelebrate the Rock Garden Festival.
