2.1 million people in the US still use internet through AOL dial-up at 56 Kbps speed

It is simply unbelievable. As many as 2.1 million people in the US still use dial up connection to use internet. It is in a country that has always claimed to be in the driver’s seat when it comes to technology.

To many people it my look like a crazy idea. Nonetheless many people are still using the internet in the US as if they were living in the nineties of the last century. USA has the second largest internet user base after China and the average broadband speed across the United States is as high as 11.4 Mbps.

Had it been about a Third World country in Sub-Saharan Africa or in Somalia we would have believed the news without any hesitation. Nonetheless the report seems to be true and 2.1 million people there still use AOL dial-up to connect to the Internet.

The news seem to be true as it was reported by none other than AOL. The company made the news public in its quarterly earnings last week. There is no denying the fact that as many as 70 per cent Americans actually use broadband that is 200 times faster than AOL’s dial-up. Nonetheless many people still seem to have been mired in the nineties when the internet was the slowest thing on the planet. The company says that it provides 56 Kbps speed to such people.
